The $250,000 Grade 2 Del Mar Derby was contested Sunday, September 4 at Del Mar Race Track in Del Mar, California. Horses three years old and upward took to Del Mar's turf track and raced 1 1/8 miles. Abbondanza Racing and Nathan McCauley's Free Rose took the lead early and barely held on for the half-length upset win - at 11-1 odds. 6-1 third choice Ralis finished second in the field of 14 while Dressed in Hermes, who was also sent off at 11-1 got in for third. Monster Bea was fourth with second choice Lucky Bryan, 3-1 favorite Blackjackcat, Moonlight Drive, Diplodocus, Ebadan, Trojan Nation, I'malreadythere, Gold Rush Dancer, Arcature and Mr. Roary completing the order of finish.
