Takeover Target Wins Dixie Stakes at Pimlico Race Course

The $250,000 Grade 2 Longines Dixie Stakes went down as part of Preakness Stakes Day, May 21 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Horses three years old and upward took to Pimlico's turf track and raced 1 1/16 miles. Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence's 7-2 third betting choice Takeover Target prevailed in the slop after racing in last before the stretch. 5-2 second choice Ring Weekend, off a lengthy layoff finished a good second - a neck behind with 2-1 favorite Grand Arch another half-length back in third. Captain Dixie was fourth in the field that was trimmed to just eight while Conquest Typhoon, Prince Gagarian, El Kabeir and Za Approval completed the order of finish. Long On Value, Golden Sabre, Force the Pass, Take the Stand [ARG] and Cage Fighter all scratched.
