American Freedom Wins Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows

The $250,000 Grade 3 Iowa Derby went down Friday, July 1 at Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Iowa. Three year olds took to Prairie Meadows dirt track and raced 1 1/16 miles. Gary and Mary West's overwhelming 1-5 favorite American Freedom was best on the day earning his first ever graded stakes victory - by an impressive 4 3/4 lengths. 5-1 second choice Texas Chrome finished second in the short field of six while Hint of Roses got in for third at 8-1 odds. Lookin for a Kiss was fourth while Catfish Creek and Colonel Dan completed the order of finish. Synchrony and The Rouge Diesel scratched.
