Las Vegas, NV - Santa Anita's unique downhill turf course was the scene of the $100,000 Grade 3 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes on Sunday, October 25 - a 6 1/2 furlong test for older fillies and mares. 9-2 third choice, Brazilian bred, Rio Dios Irmaos' homebred Baruta posted her first graded stakes score in convincing fashion - by 1 3/4 lengths in the field of eight. 7-1 shot Velvet Mesquite finished second while Theatre Star got in for third as the 7-2 second choice. Amaranth tired and finished fourth, followed by 5-2 favorite Chati's On Top, Kool Kat, Off the Road, and Spirit of Xian.
