Saturday's $500,000 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga Race Course on NBC

Rob Gregorka

Las Vegas, NV -- Six of the best fillies in the country will be battling for the win on Saturday in the $500,000 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga Race Course. Leading the way will be It's Tricky who has won five of her six lifetime starts. You can bet this race at OffTrackBetting.com and watch it on NBC television.

It's Tricky
It's Tricky is the 9-5 favorite on the morning line. The horse is the daughterof Mineshaft, and she looks like the one to beat. She has already won at Saratoga race track this year as she took the Coaching Club American Oaks. "I love how she's coming up to the race," trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said. "I think she's the one to beat, and I wouldn't trade places with anyone." It's Tricky will break from post #4 under jockey Eddie Castro.

Plum Pretty
The main challenger to It's Tricky figures to be Plum Pretty who won the Kentucky Oaks and was second to It's Tricky in the Coaching Club American Oaks Coaching Club American Oaks. The two horses were basically side-by-side in the CCA Oaks until It's Tricky pulled away late. The Bob Baffert trained horse has three wins in seven career starts.

The rest of the field may be overmatched although they each have some nice wins on their resume.

Royal Delta was the winner of the Black-Eyed Susan but was third in the Coaching Club. Inglorious won the $1 million Queen's Plate at Woodbine, St. John's River comes off a win in the Delaware Oaks while Pinch Pie won at Monmouth Park .

The best of this bunch could be St. John's River who should like the distance. History is also on the side of St. John's River as the last three winners of the Delaware Oaks came back to win the Alabama Stakes. St. John's River seems to have taken well to the track at Saratoga. "Since she's been here she is so relaxed," trainer Andrew Leggio Jr. said, "I guess she likes the weather and the atmosphere here." The horse has two wins, three seconds and a third in six career starts. "She's got three seconds, and with a little luck we could have won all three of those races," Leggio said.
