Del Mar Futurity 2013 Contenders

Las Vegas, NV - A little mid-week graded stakes action comes our way from Del Mar when the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity is contested Wednesday, September 4. Two year olds will be featured in this seven furlong dash as they chase the winner's share of the $300,000 purse on Del Mar's dirt track.

The Del Mar Futurity has attracted a field of 11 two year olds to go in race 8 on Del Mar's Wednesday card. Post time is 5:40 PM. Let's take a brief look into the past performances of all 11 entries for this Grade 1 stakes on the closing day of Del Mar's summer meet.

2013 Del Mar Futurity Race Favorite Entries

Alberts Hope - has two career starts for trainer Mike Puype - both wins. A MSW score in front running fashion by two lengths at 33-1 odds at Hollywood Park July 14 was followed last time out with a terrific win as favorite in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes over Celtic Moon and a few more of his Del Mar Futurity foes. He will break from post 5 with co-high weight of 122 pounds with Alonso Quinonez in the saddle.

Celtic Moon - Peter Miller pupil entered the Best Pal last time out having broken maiden in his previous start at Hollywood Park July 7 after a third in his debut on that same track June 22. He finished a very close second behind only Alberts Hope in the Grade 2 Best Pal and will be looking for some revenge Wednesday.

Del Mar Futurity 2013 | Remaining Contenders

Guns Loaded - has two career starts for trainer Cody Autrey - both on this track - a MSW score July 30 and a very respectable third last time out in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes behind Alberts Hope and Celtic Moon. He was competitive in the Best Pal and hopes to continue his ascent Wednesday.

Alpine Luck - Mike Harrington trained colt has five career starts and is the most experienced of the Del Mar Futurity entries. He already has a stakes win - the Hollywood Juvenile Championship at Hollywood Park July 13 after breaking maiden in June and starting his career with two third place finishes - both MSW at Hollywood Park. Last time out was his career worst result however - a fifth in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes here August 4. He will enter as the co-top weight of 122 pounds Wednesday.

Skydreamin - Jeff Bonde trained colt has three starts in his career with two stakes wins to start his career - the Everett Nevin Stakes at Pleasanton July 7 after a win in his debut in the Lost in the Fog Stakes at Golden Gate June 15. Last time out however was an unsuccessful debut in graded stakes company - a sixth in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes on this track August 4. He hopes to get back on track and could be a factor based on his two previous stakes wins.

California Chrome - is coming off a nice win in the minor Graduation Stakes on this track July 31 after a fifth in the minor Willard L. Proctor Memorial at Hollywood Park in June. He broke maiden in his second career start after a second in his debut. He takes some momentum into the Futurity and is another solid entry for Wednesday's race. He will also share top weight of 122 pounds for the Futurity.

Can the Man - Bob Baffert trained colt makes just his second career start Wednesday after an impressive MSW score in his debut - on this track August 17. He is one of a long list of entries for the Futurity off maiden scores at Del Mar.

Dance With Fate - Debuted July 14 at Hollywood Park and finished an ugly eighth in a MSW but bounce back last time out with a win in a MSW on this track August 11.

Rum Point - Doug O'Neill trained colt makes his stakes debut Wednesday but is coming off a MSW win on this track August 3. His first career race resulted in a third in a similar race at Hollywood Park July 14.

Tamarando - Jerry Hollendorfer trained colt has three MSW starts in his career and finally broke maiden last time out - on this track August 18 after a second in his second start and a fourth in his debut.

Indexical - has two career MSW starts under his belt - both on this track. Last time out was a nice win August 17 after a fifth in his debut July 20.
