2013 Monmouth Stakes Race Favorites
Boisterous -has won five of his last 11 starts including the 2011 and 2012 Grade 3 Red Smith Stakes at Aqueduct and the 2011 and 2012 Knickerbocker Stakes also at Aqueduct. His lone poor performance the last couple years came in August - a ninth in the Grade 1 Arlington Millions but he won two straight after that. He enters off a pair of good seconds - in the Grade 3 Ben Ali Stakes last time out at Keeneland April 21 after the Grade 3 River City Handicap at Churchill Downs November 5. Sunday marks his second start of 2013 but with two wins and two seconds his last four starts, he is one to watch!
Tune Me In - came out of nowhere and won the Grade 3 Oceanport on July 29 and followed that win another impressive score on this track in the Grade 3 Cliff Hanger in September. He followed that with an OK third in the Grade 3 Knickerbocker Stakes in October, a fifth in the minor If Winter Comes Stakes and an ugly twelfth to close out 2012 back in December in the El Prado Stakes. He has just one start in 2013 for trainer Bruce Alexander - a nice second in the Grade 3 Red Bank Stakes here May 18. Tune Me in has been up and down but when up has looked very good - particularly on this track.
Monmouth Stakes 2013 | Remaining Field Entries
Star Channel - Todd Pletcher pupil is coming off an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Belmont Park May 15 after a respectable second in the Besilu Turf Classic at Tampa Bay Downs April 6. He ran three graded stakes races in 2012 and didn't fare well in any - a fourth in the Grade 3 Kent Stakes in September was his best result. The others were a thirteenth in the Grade 3 American Turf Stakes in May and a third in the Grade 3 Hill Prince Stakes in June. He has four wins, a second and two third place finishes in 13 career starts. He has looked better in 2013 and may looks to be on the cusp of a breakout performance.
Hobbs - has won two of his last four starts ahead of the Monmouth including the Besilu Stables Turf Classic over Star Channel at Tampa Bay Downs April 6 and an Allowance Optional Claiming February 2. He has a sixth in an Allowance Optional Claiming sandwiched in there as well. Last time out was a tenth in his graded stakes debut in the Grade 3 Red Bank Stakes on this track May 18. Hobbs has 134 career starts with five wins, four seconds and a third place finish and will be looking to bounce back from a career worst performance.

Rahystrada has placed in his first five starts in 2012 - three third place finishes including the Grade 1 Arlington Millions, a respectable third behind Turbo Compressor and Air Support in the Colonial Turf Cup, a win in the Grade 3 Arlington Handicap on July 14 and a good second in the Grade 3 Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes at Kentucky Downs September 15. He ended 2012 with a fourth in the Grade 3 Sycamore Stakes at Keeneland in October and was away for nearly seven months before a second last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Churchill Dows May2.
Big Blue Kitten - finished a respectable third in the Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap last February behind Hollinger and Get Stormy and has just five starts since - a tenth overseas in June, a nice Allowance Optional Claiming score at Gulfstream December 8, a decent third in his 2013 debut in the Grade 2 Ft. Lauderdale Stakes at Gulfstream January 12 and two straight Allowance Optional Claiming scores - the last coming at Churchill Downs May 2. He has eight wins, a second and four third place finishes in 14 career starts including his most impressive score - the Grade 2 Hall of Fame Stakes at Saratoga in August 2011.
Wrote - won the 2011 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf in his only North American start and returned to Europe where he had only four starts since that win. In 2012 he had a third in the UAE Derby and another third in May but hasn't been the same since. Last time out was a fourteenth place finish at Ascot after a seventh at Curragh. Sunday marks Wrote's first start since June 2012 - hopes are that 2013 doesn't mirror 2012.
Learn - Irish bred colt has two wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in 10 starts at home before debuting in North America May 31. He finished fifth in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Monmouth Park in that race for trainer Andrew Mitchell and will be looking to make a little noise Sunday.
Two Notch Road - has 12 career starts with three wins but hasn't fared all that well in graded stakes action. Last time out he was fifth in the Grade 3 Red Bank Stakes here May 18 after a seventh in the Grade 3 Jamaica Handicap way back in October after a pair of fourths at Colonial Downs - including the Grade 2 Virginia Derby in July. Arguably his best career result was a third in the Grade 2 Colonial Turf Cup in June.
Warrioroftheroses - main track only entry is coming off an OK fourth in his stakes debut at the Grade 2 Maryland Sprint Handicap May 18 at Pimlico. Before that was a pair of fifths, a win and an eighth place finish in a quartet of Allowance Optional Claiming races on the East Coast.
