2013 Dominion Day Stakes Race Favorites

Delegation - made his graded stakes debut in August and finished third in the Grade 2 Play the King Stakes at Woodbine before two straight impressive wins - an Allowance Optional Claiming score and the Grade 3 Durham Cup Stakes in October at Woodbine. He went on to a very good third in the 2012 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile behind Tapizar and Rail Trip and a second in the minor Harlan's Holiday Stakes December 16 right behind Csaba. He started his 2013 campaign with an ugly eighth in the Grade 3 Hal's Hope Stakes but has been much better in his two starts since - an Allowance score in April here was followed by a good second last time out in the Grade 2 Eclipse Stakes also on this track. He has had just one bad start in his career and is the morning line favorite in the Dominion Day.

Alpha Bettor - has 21 career starts all at Woodbine. He started 2012 with a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming and followed that with a seventh in the Grade 3 Eclipse. Since then Alpha Bettor has been up and down - a win in the Grade 3 Seagram Stakes being his best result of 2012. He raced to a pair of fourths to end 2012 - in the Grade 3 Durham Cup Stakes and the Grade 2 Autumn Stakes. He has just one start in 2013 and it was a good one - a win in the Grade 2 Eclipse Stakes May 12 ahead of Delegation and James Street who are both entered in the Dominion Day. He stretches out Monday but trainer Danny Vella feels that it shouldn't be an issue.

Dominion Day Stakes 2013 | Remaining Field Entries

James Street - is a graded stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed and is coming off a nice third last time out in the Grade 3 Eclipse Stakes here May 12. Before that was a second in an Allowance in April and a distant ninth in January in the Grade 3 Colonel E.R. Bradley Handicap in January. He did have a win in the Grade 3 Autumn Stakes on this track in November as well as a pair of thirds in his previous two graded stakes starts at Woodbine. He was close in the Eclipse and he did finish second in this race in 2011 - he could threaten the favorites Monday.

Awesome Overture - started his career at Hastings where he won a Maiden Optional Claiming to start his career and then finished fifth in the British Columbia Cup Nursery Stakes. He started his 2013 campaign with a win in a Starter Optional Claiming at Fair Grounds and followed that with a seventh in a Claiming at Churchill Downs. Last time out was his graded stakes debut which resulted in a distant ninth in the Grade 3 Louisville Handicap. He races with Lasix for the second time and will be looking for a breakthrough in stakes company Monday.

Patrioticandproud - won the minor Toronto Cup Stakes in July on this track and went on to an Allowance Optional Claiming score after that on this track as well. He hasn't been great since however. Last time out was a fifth in the Grade 3 Hanshin Cup at Arlington Park May 25 after a sixth in the Grade 2 Alysheba Stakes May 3. His last start on this track was a good second in the Grade 2 Autumn Stakes November 10 but he has struggled overall in his last couple of starts.

Perfect Afleet - made his stakes debut last time out and finished a respectable fourth in the Grade 2 Eclipse Stakes on this track May 12 for his third straight fourth place finish. He started his year with an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Gulfstream March 9 for his only victory in nearly a year. Perfect Afleet has three wins, two seconds and a third place finish in 16 career starts.

Photo Shoot - the lone shipper in the field made his graded stakes debut with a sixth in the Grade 2 Fayette Stakes at Keeneland in October but has started one minor stakes race which resulted in a third in September at the Presque Isle Mile Stakes. He followed that up with a fourth in an Allowance here October 13. Before those results Photo Shoot won two of three Allowance races at Presque Isle Downs. He has just one start since October - an Allowance Optional Claiming score May 27 at Presque Isle Downs.

River Rush - was sixth in the Queen's Plate last year and finished a decent third in his graded stakes debut in September in the Grade 3 Ontario derby. Since that race he has four Allowance Optional Claiming starts with two straight seconds in his last two starts, a seventh before that and a third way back in October. He has two wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in 10 career starts.
