2014 Bay Shore Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Kobe's Back - won his career debut for trainer John Sadler - the 5 1/2 furlong Willard Proctor Stakes by 3 1/4 lengths but has been up and since - an ugly tenth after clipping heels in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity at Hollywood Park December 14 followed a second to the highly regarded Shared Belief in the Grade 3 Hollywood Prevue Stakes November 19. He won the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita February 16 in impressive style - by 5 1/2 lengths but fell back to earth last time out - a seventh in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park March 15. Kobe's Back has looked terrible at times in his last three starts but also had a win sandwiched in between his ugly results - a tad difficult to figure out! He leaves from the far outside post as the 2-1 morning favorite. Corey Nakatani has the call.

The Admiral - Bob Baffert trained colt has improved every time out and enters on a two race win streak. Last time out was an Allowance score at Santa Anita March 16 after finally breaking maiden on that same track February 15 - in his fourth career start. He has placed in four of his five career starts and enters in good form. The Admiral is the 3-1 morning line second choice and will have Martin Garcia in the saddle from post 7.

Bay Shore Stakes 2014 | Remaining Contenders

Coup de Grace - will race for just the fourth time for trainer Chad Brown having won two of his three career starts - a maiden win in his debut on this track in November and an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream December 15. Last time out was a rather unsuccessful step up in competition where he finished tenth in the Grade 2 Holy Bull Stakes. He looks to better his stakes debut Saturday as the 4-1 third choice on the morning line. Javier Castellano gets the mount from gate 4.

Favorite Tale - has three career starts - all at Parx and three impressive wins. He broke maiden in his debut January 4 and has since won a pair of Allowance races - the last coming March 24 by 14-lengths with a lofty 101 Beyer Speed Figure. He puts his streak on the line Saturday in an enormous jump up in competition at 5-1 odds with Jose Luis Flores aboard - looking like he could surprise the field and make a name for himself.

Financial Mogul - is coming off an OK fourth in the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes here March 1 after a disappointing sixth in the Grade 2 Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream January 25, a very respectable second in the Grade 2 Nashua Stakes at Aqueduct November 3, an OK fourth in the Grade 2 Futurity Stakes at Belmont Park September 29 and a MSW score in his second career start. He has just one win and a second place finish in six career starts and has placed in just one of his last four starts overall. Jose Ortiz gets the call from gate 3 Saturday at 8-1 odds.

Oliver Zip - Kelly Breen trained colt has looked very good in his five race career - three wins and two second place finishes. He enters this weekend on a two race win streak - in the Fred Cappy Capossela Stakes here by 4 ½ lengths with a career-best 99 Beyer Speed Figure March 8 and a Starter Allowance also on this track February 21. Prior to that was a pair of seconds in minor stakes action this winter also at Aqueduct. Oliver Zip will have Rajiv Maragh in the saddle from post 2 as he goes off at 10-1 odds in his first start beyond six furlongs.

Loki's Vengeance - finished second behind Oliver Zip last time out in the minor Fred Cappy Capossela Stakes here March 8 after a pair of wins - a maiden score in his second career start on this track December 21 and an Allowance score also here January 20. He has two wins and two seconds in four career starts and looks like another in the long line of strong challengers for the Bay Shore. Loki's Vengeance is 15-1 on the morning line and will leave from gate 5 with Manuel Franco aboard.

Charliemillionaire - will make his graded stakes debut Saturday after seven career starts produced three wins, two seconds and a third place finish. Last time out was an Allowance score at Parx March 3 after a third in the minor Jimmy Winkfield Stakes on this track January 20. He also had a second in the minor Jersey Juvenile Stakes at Monmouth Park in August. Charliemillionaire leaves from the rail as the longest shot in the field - 30-1 odds with Irad Ortiz in the saddle.
