2014 Distaff Handicap Race Favorite Entries

Kauai Katie - impressive Todd Pletcher trained filly will hit the track for the first time since an uber-disappointing sixth in the Grade 1 Prioress Stakes at Saratoga way back on July 27 after a third in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes at Belmont Park in May, 2013. She has won six of nine career starts including the Matron Stakes at Belmont Park September 30 and the Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga August 12 before that. She was an OK fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies in November, 2012 but went on a run after that - three straight wins in 2013 include the Grade 3 Old Hat Stakes January 1, the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes January 26 and the minor Road Princess Stakes in gate-to-wire fashion April 21 at Aqueduct. She hopes to get back to her early 2013 form after nine months away and will have John Velazquez aboard from post 5. Kauai Katie is the 3-1 second choice on the morning line and will carry the top weight of 120 pounds.

La Verdad - lightly raced Linda Rice trained filly entered her graded stakes debut - the Barbara Fritchie Handicap at Laurel Park February 22 on a five race win streak - the lone blemish in her career came in her debut. She finished a good second in that race and most recently returned to the winner's circle in the minor Broadway Stake here March 29. She has six wins and a second in her last seven starts overall but looks for her first graded stakes score Saturday. Jose Ortiz has the mount on the 5-2 morning line favorite from the rail.

My Pal Chrisy - Martin Wolfson trained mare entered the Go for Wand at Aqueduct on a three race win streak including the Millions Distaff Preview Stakes November 9, the minor Musical Romance Stakes and the Pasadena Stakes - all results at Gulfstream. She went on to a third in the Grade 2 Go For Wand and has since registered a third in the Ocala Stakes here December 29 and a trio of seconds - the Florida Sunshine Million Filly and Mare Sprint, the minor Awesome Feather Stakes February 5 and most recently in the Grade 2 Inside Information Stakes at Gulfstream March 22. She also had a good stretch in the summer at Calder - the highlight being a third in the Grade 1 Princess Rooney Handicap July 6. My Pal Chrisy has three wins, four seconds and five third place finishes in her last 12 starts and is in the best form of her 45 race career. Joel Rosario will be in the reins from the outside post Saturday at 7-2 odds.

Munnings Sister - Barclay Tagg trained mare has seven wins and four third place finishes in 17 career starts - a win and two third in her last three starts overall. Lion D N A - Rudy Rodriguez trained mare makes her graded stakes debut Saturday after 29 career starts produced eight wins, six seconds and four third place finishes. She did have three straight wins on this track this past winter - the minor Correction Stakes February 1, the minor Interborough Stakes January 1 and a Starter Optional Claiming in December but is coming off a fifth in a Starter Allowance also here February 17. She has three wins and three seconds in her last seven starts and steps up in good form. Angel Arroyo rides from gate 3. She is listed at 8-1 odds.

Bridgehampton - has just four career starts for trainer Michael Hushion with two wins and a second place finish. Last time out was an Allowance score at this distance on this track March 23 after nine months away and a good stakes debut - a second in the Grade 3 Victory Ride Stakes at Belmont Park in June. She broke maiden at Belmont Park in May. Bridgehampton has been competitive in her limited experience and from the outside post at 10-1 odds with Rajiv Maragh aboard.

Miss d'Oro - will race for the first time since a fourth place finish in the Grade 2 Vagrancy Handicap at Belmont Park in May. She has eight career starts for trainer Jason Servis with four wins, a second and two third place finishes. Arguably her best result came in June of 2012 - a win in the minor Wonders Delight Stakes at Penn National. She won two starts at Parx in 2013 and made a successful graded stakes debut April 13 with a second in last year's Distaff Handicap behind Cluster of Stars. Rust could be a factor in her first race in nearly a year but there is no doubt she should be competitive. Manuel Franco gets the call from gate 2. Miss d'Oro is the longest shot in the field at 20-1 odds.
