Starlet Stakes 2014 at Los Alamitos

Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 Starlet Stakes comes our way from Los Alamitos Race Course in Los Alamitos, California on Saturday, December 13 - a race formerly held at Hollywood Park. A nice purse of $350,000 and 10 qualifying points for the Kentucky Oaks in May will be on the line for two year old fillies willing to race 1 1/16 miles on Los Alamitos dirt track.

A field of seven will hit the track in the Starlet - race 8 on Los Alamitos Saturday card. Post time is 4:00 PM. Here is a brief glance into the past performances of all seven entries for this Grade 1 stakes - the final Grade 1 test of 2014 for two year old fillies.

2014 Starlet Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Take Charge Brandi - D Wayne Lukas trained filly posted a maiden score at first asking and then went on to a very good second in the Grade 3 Shuylerville Stakes at Saratoga July 18. She fell off after that losing three straight by a combined 36 1/2 lengths - an eighth in the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland October 3 after fifths in the Grade 2 Pocahontas Stakes September 6 and the Adirondack Stakes in August. But she bounced back on the biggest stage wiring the 14 Hands Winery Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at 61-1 odds November 1. Last time out Take Charge Brandi continued her meteoric rise winning the $500,000 Grade 3 Delta Downs Princess Stakes by 1 1/2 lengths November 22 - a race that put her into the Eclipse Award conversation. She is simply on fire and off two straight impressive wins in the horse to beat Saturday. Victor Espinoza has the mount from post 6.

Feathered - Todd Pletcher trained filly made her stakes debut October 4 and finished third in the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes at Belmont Park and followed that with another respectable performance last time out - a fourth - one length behind Take Charge Brandi in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. She broke maiden by 9 3/4 lengths in her second career start - at Saratoga August 31 and her career debut resulted in a second in a MSW on that same track August 3. She has placed in three of her four career starts and has been in the mix every time out. Jockey Mike Smith hopes for more of the same Saturday from gate 4.

Maybellene - Bob Baffert trainee broke maiden in her third career start in wire-to-wire fashion over Danette which followed a sixth and a third respectively in similar races - all results at Del Mar. She has been up and down since. Last time out was a good second behind Achiever's Legacy in the listed Desi Arnaz Stakes at Del Mar November 16 after an Allowance Optional Claiming score in October and a disappointing eleventh in the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes in September - her only graded stakes action to date. She departs from the outside post with Rafael Bejarano aboard.

Achiever's Legacy - Jerry Hollendorfer trained filly is coming off a career best result - a win over Maybellene at 9-1 odds in the listed Desi Arnaz Stakes at Del Mar November 16 which followed a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming and a sixth in the minor Surfer Girl Stakes at Santa Anita in October She has two wins and a third place finish in five career starts and will have Drayden Van Dyke guiding her from the rail in her graded stakes debut.

Danette - Keith Desormeaux trainee has six career starts with a second and two third place finishes and is coming off an OK fifth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile which followed a third in the Grade 1 Chandelier Stales on the same track September 27. Before that was a second in a MSW, a third, a fifth and a seventh respectively in MSW races in her first three starts. Danette will have Kent Desormeaux in the irons from post 3.

Majestic Presence - will race for the sixth time for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer having recorded one win and two third place finishes. Last time out was a respectable third, behind Take Charge Brandi in the Delta Downs Princess which followed a disappointing ninth of 12 in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, an OK fourth in the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita in September and a maiden score in August. Majestic Presence looks to build on a good effort last time out with Gary Stevens aboard from post 5.

Don't Blame Me - Kristin Mulhall trained filly has a win, three seconds and a third place finish in seven career starts and enters having placed in four straight races - a third in her graded stakes debut last time out - the Grade 3 Jimmy Durante Stakes at Del Mar followed a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming in October and a maiden score in September in her fifth career start. Don't Blame me has looked OK and enters as the only entry with Los Alamitos experience and in the best form of her career. Tyler Baze will be in the irons from post 2.
