2015 Hollywood Derby Race Favorites

Om - impressive Dan Hendricks trained colt has four wins, a second and a third place finish in eight career starts. He enters on a two race win streak - the Grade 2 Twilight Derby last time out at Santa Anita October 24 and the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby here September 6. Before that was a second in the Grade 3 La Jolla Handicap on this track August 9 and a third in the Grade 3 Affirmed Stakes at Santa Anita in June. Om has improved every time out, has placed in his last five starts overall with three wins over that span and is expected to be in the mix again Saturday. Gary Stevens rides from post 5.

Sharla Rae - Doug O'Neill trained filly takes a shot against the boys Saturday off a disappointing tenth in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf and a fifth in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita September 26. Before that was a terrific win in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks on this track in August. She also had a second in the Grade 2 Honeymoon Stakes and a third in the Grade 3 Bourbonette Stakes earlier this year. Sharla Rae has five wins, a second and a third place finish in 15 career starts but has placed in just one of her last five starts overall - but that result was a good one. She hopes to snap a skid Saturday from gate 2 with James Graham guiding her.

Hollywood Derby 2015 | Remaining Contenders

Money Multiplier - has a win, three seconds and a third place finish in seven career starts for trainer Chad Brown. He broke maiden at Belmont Park in May in his fourth career starts and went on to a couple of good runner-up finishes - the Grade 3 Kent Stakes in July and the Grade 3 Saranac Stakes in September. Last time out was a bit of a step back however - a fifth in the Grade 3 Hill Prince Stakes at Belmont Park October 3. Money Multiplier has been knocking on the door but will be after his first stakes win Saturday from gate 10. Drayden Van Dyke has the mount.

Offering Plan - Chad Brown trained colt finished thirteenth in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and was out of racing for nine months. He returned August 9 and won an Allowance score and followed that with a fifth in the minor Better Talk Now Stakes August 31 and a nice win last time out in the minor English Channel Stakes at Belmont Park October 25. Offering Plan looks decent ahead of this weekend and departs from post 13 with Mike Smith aboard.

Mister Brightside - Irish bred Jeremy Noseda trained colt has placed in nine of 10 career starts - three wins, three seconds and three third place finishes. He looked good at home posting two wins in his final four races and debuted in North America October 24 and finished a very respectable second in the Grade 2 Twilight Derby at Santa Anita. Mister Brightside has been in every race in his career and could challenge again Saturday. Kent Desormeaux has been tabbed to ride from the rail.

March - won the Grade 3 Bay Shore Stakes at Aqueduct in April and the Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakes in June for trainer Chad Brown but hasn't been great since. Last time out was a fourth in the minor English Channel Stakes October 25 after sixth place finishes in the Grade 1 King's Bishop Stakes August 29 and the Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes August 1. He has three wins, a second and a third place finish in eight career starts and looks to snap an ugly three race losing streak - from post 11 with Rafael Bejarano slated to ride.

Royal Albert Hall - British bred Doug O'Neill trained gelding has just one win in 14 career starts to go along with five seconds and four third place finishes. He has placed in four of his last five starts - a third last time out in the Grade 2 Twilight Derby October 24 followed a sixth in the Grade 3 Hill Prince Stakes October 3, a second in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby September 6 and a third in the Grade 3 La Jolla Handicap in August. He looks for his first stakes score from gate 12 with Santiago Gonzalez in the irons.

Crittenden - Eoin Harty trained gelding won the minor P D J F Stakes at Indiana Grand in May and went on to a good second in the Grade 3 American Derby at Arlington in July. He struggled a bit after that - a fifth in the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes August 8 was followed by a fourth in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby September 6 and a good bounce back win last time out in the minor Let It Ride Stakes on this very track October 31. Crittenden has 11 career starts with four wins, a second and a third place finish and looks for his first graded stakes start - from post 7 with Mario Gutierrez in the irons.

Closing Bell - legendary trainer Bill Mott sends out Closing Bell for his seventh career start - he has two wins and two second place finishes so far. Closing Bell has been very competitive the last three months and chases his first graded stakes score from gate 8. Jose Lezcano has the mount.

Vigilante - Phil D'Amato trained colt makes his stakes debut Saturday having posted two wins and two second place finishes in his four career starts. He enters on a two race win streak - an Allowance last time out at Keeneland October 21 and a maiden score at Saratoga in August. Vigilante has been impressive so far but takes a huge step up in competition Saturday. Joe Talamo has the mount from post 3.

Soul Driver - has 11 career starts for trainer Jeff Mullins with three wins, two seconds and a third place finish. He won a pair of minor stakes races early in the summer - the Singletary Stakes in June and the Oceanside Stakes in July - the last one coming on this track. He has since posted consecutive fifth place finishes - the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby in September and the Grade 2 Twilight Derby last time out October 25. In fact, he's finished fifth in all four graded stakes tries. Soul Driver tries to snap that streak from post 9 Saturday with Tyler Baze scheduled to ride.

Chiropractor - has six career starts for trainer Tom Proctor with two wins and two second place finishes. He makes his stakes debut Saturday off a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track November 6, a fifth in a similar race at Santa Anita October 12 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score on this very track in August. Chiropractor has been OK so far but could be in over his head in this one. Corey Nakatani will be in the saddle from gate 4.

Win the Space - has two wins and two third place finishes in eight career starts but has yet to place in three stakes tries. He enters off an Allowance Optional Claiming score October 25 after a seventh in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby September 6 and a maiden score in his seventh career start. He has been good against lesser competition - not so great against stakes competition. Alex Solis rides from the outside post 14.

Acceptance - Alternate Entry had two minor stakes scores at this time last year. Last time out was a second in the minor Let It Ride Stakes here October 31 after nine months away and a fourth in the minor California Cup Derby in January.
