Las Vegas, NV - Santa Anita in Arcadia, California will play host to the Grade 1 Las Virgenes Stakes on Saturday, January 31. A purse of $300,000 will be on the line when three year old fillies take to Santa Anita's dirt track and race one mile.

2015 Las Virgenes Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Maybellene - Bob Baffert trainee broke maiden in her third career start in wire-to-wire fashion which followed a sixth and a third respectively in similar races - all results at Del Mar. She has been up and down since. Last time out was a decent third behind champion Take Charge Brandi in the Grade 1 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos December 13 which followed a good second behind Achiever's Legacy in the listed Desi Arnaz Stakes at Del Mar November 16, an Allowance Optional Claiming score in October and a disappointing eleventh in the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes in September. She has placed in her last three starts overall, has won two starts at the one mile distance and hopes to keep the roll going with Rafael Bejarano aboard from post 2.

Callback - Bob Baffert trained filly debuted in graded stakes company January 3 on this track and posted a good second behind Seduire n the Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes after breaking maiden in gate-to-wire fashion at Los Alamitos in December in her second career start and a ninth in her debut. Callback has been trending upward and should be competitive again Saturday in her two turn debut with Martin Garcia aboard from post 7.

Light the City - will hit the track for the fifth time for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer off a disappointing fifth in her graded stakes debut - as favorite in the Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes here January 3. Before that was an OK third behind Maybellene and Achiever's Legacy in the listed Desi Arnaz Stakes at Del Mar in November and a nice win in her second career start - the minor Anoakia Stakes here in October. Light the City looks to break through in graded stakes company and around two turns for the first time with Kent Desormeaux guiding her from the outside post.

Achiever's Legacy - Jerry Hollendorfer trained filly is coming off a somewhat disappointing fifth in her graded stakes debut - the Grade 1 Starlet at Los Alamitos December 13 which followed a career best result - a win over Maybellene and Light the City at 9-1 odds in the listed Desi Arnaz Stakes at Del Mar November 16, a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming and a sixth in the minor Surfer Girl Stakes at Santa Anita in October. She has two wins and a third place finish in six career starts and will have Drayden Van Dyke guiding her from gate 4 as she looks to avenge an ugly graded stakes debut.

Majestic Presence - will race for the seventh time for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer having recorded one win and two third place finishes. Last time out was a fourth in the Grade 1 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos December 13 which followed a respectable third, behind Take Charge Brandi in the Delta Downs Princess, a disappointing ninth of 12 in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, an OK fourth in the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita in September and a maiden score in August. Majestic Presence has been in there with some top fields and will be happy not to see Take Charge Brandi with whom she's finished behind in her last three starts. She looks for her first graded stakes score from post 6 with Gary Stevens guiding her.

Lutine Belle - Jerry Hollendorfer trainee has won two of her last three races - the minor one mile Blue Norther Stakes on this track last time out January 1 and an Allowance Optional Claiming at Golden Gate in October - with a respectable third in the minor Golden Gate Debutante Stakes in October sandwiched in there. She does have on graded stakes start under her belt - a seventh in the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes here in September but has caught fire since. Alex Solis has been tabbed to keep the upward trend going from post 3.

Glory - Jerry Hollendorfer trained filly makes her stakes debut Saturday after breaking maiden by two lengths here January 10 - a result that followed a second in her debut. Mike Smith has been tabbed to ride this intriguing entry from the rail.

Suva Harbor - John Sadler trainee has two wins and two seconds in four career starts - two straight wins heading into this weekend. Last time out was an Allowance Optional Claiming score y three lengths on this track January 4 after a maiden score at Del Mar in November. She looks for three straight wins Saturday with Martin Pedroza in the saddle from gate 8.

Miss Mandate - Mark Casse trainee broke maiden on this track October 24 - her only win in seven career starts. She made her graded stakes debut two back and finished eighth in the Grade 3 Delta Downs Princess Stakes and followed that with an OK second behind Suva Harbor last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming here January 4. Miss Mandate has placed in two of her last three starts but not a whole lot is expected when she leaves from post 9 with Joe Talamo in the reins.

Mio Me - will race for just the third time for trainer Mark Casse - the first time in stakes company. She broke maiden last time out on this track January 3 in her second career start after a fourth in her debut - at Churchill Downs in November. Mio Me makes an enormous leap up in competition Saturday with Corey Nakatani in the irons from post 5.
