Triple Bend Stakes 2015 at Santa Anita Park

Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 Triple Bend Stakes will be run this Saturday, June 27 from Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California this Saturday, June 26. Horses three years old and upward will be featured as they line up on Santa Anita's dirt track and go seven furlongs looking for the winner's share of the $300,000 purse.

Seven older horses will line up in the Triple Bend Handicap - race 7 on Santa Anita's Saturday schedule. Post time is 4:00 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all seven entries for this Grade 1 stakes.

2015 Triple Bend Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Masochistic - speedy and controversial Ron Ellis trained gelding has place in six of seven career starts - five wins and a second place finish - the only off-the-board finish coming in his debut. He enters off a terrific win in the Grade 2 Kona Gold Stakes here with a career best 102 Beyer Speed Figure April 11 in his graded stakes debut which followed a 2 1/4 length Allowance Optional Claiming score here with a field-best 100 Beyer Speed Figure February 28, a second in the minor Los Alamitos Mile way back in September and two Allowance scores at Del Mar last summer - both in gate-to-wire fashion. Masochistic is used to being at or near the top, posted a six furlong bullet workout June 19 and is expected to be in the mix Saturday from gate 5 with Tyler Baze guiding him.

Sahara Sky - four time graded stakes winning Jerry Hollendorfer trained Sahara Sky raced in graded stakes company for the first time in January, 2013 and recorded an impressive win - the 2013 Palos Verdes by one length January 19 at 21-1 odds. He also had a win in the 2013 San Carlos February 23 and a win in the 2013 Grade 1 Met Handicap with a 110 Beyer Speed Figure at Belmont Park. Sahara Sky returned to the winner's circle in the Grade 2 San Carlos Stakes at Santa Anita last March 8 - after six months away. He hasn't quite been the same since however. He enters off an OK third behind Masochistic and San Onofre in the Grade 2 Kona Gold Stakes here April 11, a sixth as favorite in the 2014 Triple Bend Handicap, an ugly seventh as 5-2 favorite in the Grade 2 Churchill Downs Stakes last May 3 and OK second in the 2014 Grade 1 Carter Handicap. Sahara Sky will saddle up for just the third time in a year having placed in just one of those starts. Rafael Bejarano has the mount on Sahara Sky from gate 4.

San Onofre - Karen Headley trained gelding has been very good in his career - four wins and four second place finishes in eight career starts. He enters off three straight runner-up finishes - the Grade 2 Los Angeles Stakes last time out May 25, behind Masochistic in the Grade 2 Kona Gold Stakes here in April and the minor Donald Valpredo California Cup Sprint in December. Before that was a four race win streak - no stakes races however. San Onofre hopes for his first stakes sc ore Saturday and has certainly been knocking on the door. Alex Solis has been tabbed to ride from gate 2 Saturday.

Wild Dude - Jerry Hollendorfer trainee enters off an OK behind San Onofre third in the Grade 3 Los Angeles Stakes May 25, a disappointing sixth in the Grade 1 Carter Handicap at Aqueduct April 4 and a nice win at this distance in the Grade 2 San Carlos Stakes at Santa Anita March 7. Before that was a third in the Grade 2 Palos Verdes Stakes January 31 and a decent second by a nose in the Grade 2 Potrero Grande Stakes back in April. He also had a three race win streak at the beginning of 2014 including the Grade 2 Palos Verdes Stakes. Wild Dude has 14 career starts with five wins, three seconds and three third place finishes and is in so-so form ahead of this weekend. He has placed in four of his last five starts overall and hopes for a second graded stakes win in his last four starts. Flavien Prat gets the call from gate 6 Saturday.

Blue Tone - Robert Hess trained gelding has 16 career starts with five wins, three seconds and two third place finishes. He made his graded stakes debut in November and finished a very respectable second in the Grade 3 Native Diver Stakes at Del Mar and followed that with another good result - a third behind Hoppertunity in the Grade 2 San Pasqual Stakes at Santa Anita January 10. He went on to a seventh place finish in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park February 7 but bounced back with a nice win by an impressive 2 3/4 lengths in the competitive listed Santana Mile here March 29. He enters off consecutive fourths - in the Grade 3 Precisionist Stakes on this track May 2 and the Grade 2 Californian last time out here on May 30. He also posted consecutive wins at Del Mar last summer - the overnight Harry F. Brubaker Stakes August 30 and an Allowance Optional Claiming August 3. Blue Tone hopes for his first graded stakes score but has failed to place in three of his last four starts. He leaves from the rail with Kent Desormeaux guiding him.

Appealing Tale - finished second in the Grade 2 San Pasqual Stakes to start his year - a race that followed a respectable third in the Grade 3 Midnight Lute Stakes here in December but has been up and down since. He enters off an Allowance Optional Claiming score by 3 1/4 lengths here May 31, a second in a similar race May 10 and a seventh in the minor Santana Mile Stakes March 29. Appealing Tale now has four wins, four seconds and six third place finishes in 21 career starts and will have Joe Talamo aboard from post 3.

Holy Lute - James Cassidy pupil won the minor El Cajon Stakes in August, 2013 and went on to a third in the Grade 2 Indiana Derby in October of 2013. After that was a tenth in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Mile and an eleventh in the Grade 1 Malibu Mile. He failed to post victory in four starts in 2014 but did have an Allowance Optional Claiming score here February 12 and a second in a similar race on this track in January. He has raced to consecutive runner up finishes ahead of this race - the minor Siren Lure Stakes last time out here May 31 and the Grade 3 San Simeon Stakes on this track April 19 to go along with a seventh in the Grade 1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile March 7. He will be after his first graded stakes score and enters in decent form with Mike Smith in the reins from post 7.
