2016 All American Stakes Race Preview at Golden Gate Fields

G.G. Ryder - defending champion in this race also won the Grade 3 San Francisco Mile here a month before that. He has been OK since. Last time out was a fifth in the 2016 San Francisco Mile April 30 after an ugly twelfth in the minor California Cup Turf Classic, a third in the Grade 3 Berkeley Handicap November 29, a second in an Allowance November 6 and a win in the minor Bull Dog Handicap at Fresno in October. G.G. Ryder now has 11 wins, five second and two third place finishes in 27 career starts and hopes to find his terrific form from last year. He looks for the repeat from post 7 with Ricardo Gonzalez guiding him.

Living the Life - Irish bred synthetic specialist filly has 32 career starts with nine wins (five stakes), five seconds and four third place finishes for trainer Gary Mandella and enters off a disappointing eleventh in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine Stakes at Santa Anita May 5. Before that were consecutive third place finishes - the Grade 1 Santa Margarita Stakes March 19 and the Grade 2 Santa Maria Stakes February 13. They followed a fourth in the Grade 2 Santa Monica Stakes January 23, a sixth in the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes at Del Mar November 1, a win in the Grade 2 Presque Isle Downs Masters (a race she won in 2014 as well), a decent second in the Grade 2 Great Lady M Stakes at Los Alamitos in July and off-the-board finishes in a pair of stakes races. She also finished last of ten in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. Living the Life has been a tad difficult to figure out but has placed in four of her last seven starts overall. Drayden Van Dyke will be in the saddle from post 5.

Poshsky - won the Berkeley Handicap over G.G. Ryder on this track in November but has not been the same since - failing to place in five starts. Last time out was a fourth in the minor Bertrando Stakes at Los Alamitos April 16 after another fourth in the Grade 3 Thunder Road Stakes at Santa Anita April 9, an eighth in the minor Sensational Star Stakes in February and consecutive fourths in stakes action to start his year. All together Poshsky has six wins, three seconds and a third place finish in 27 career starts and tries to snap out of a bit of a funk from post 9. William Antongeorgi III rides.

Outside Nashville - Jerry Hollendorfer multiple stakes winner and defending runner-up in this race won two straight races at Golden Gate in the winter of 2014 including the minor Oakland Stakes and had been up and down since. He arrives off an Allowance score here April 23, a sixth in the Grade 3 San Simeon Stakes April 2, a fifth in the Grade 2 San Carlos Stakes in March and a win in the minor Lost in the Fog Stakes on this track in February. He has eight wins, five seconds and five third place finishes in 32 career starts and tries for his first graded stakes score from gate 10. Russell Baze gets the call.

Tamarando - Jeff Bonde trainee won the Grade 3 El Camino Real Derby here in February, 2014 but has been up and down since. He has placed in just one of his last seven starts overall - that coming two starts back with a third in an Allowance on this track April 8 - he had an eighth last time out in the Grade 3 San Francisco Mile. Before that was an eighth in the minor California Cup Turf Classic in January and a fourth in the Grade 3 Berkeley Handicap here. Tamarando has been disappointing lately and looks to snap a slump from the outside gate 12 with Juan Hernandez aboard.

Blue Tone - Robert Hess trained gelding has 19 career starts with five wins, four seconds and two third place finishes. He made his graded stakes debut in November, 2014 and finished a very respectable second in the Grade 3 Native Diver Stakes at Del Mar and followed that with another good result - a third behind Hoppertunity in the Grade 2 San Pasqual Stakes at Santa Anita January 10, 2015. He won the competitive listed Santana Mile here March 29, 2015 but has placed in just one of his last five starts . Last time out was a sixth in the Grade 3 Texas Mile at Lone Star May 6 after a second in the minor Santana Mile at Santa Anita April 2, a sixth in the Grade 1 Triple Bend Handicap on that track in June and consecutive fourths - in the Grade 3 Precisionist Stakes last May 2 and the Grade 2 Californian four weeks later. Blue Tone hopes for his first graded stakes score but enters in less-than-spectacular form. He leaves from post 11 with Kent Desormeaux in the irons.

Star Student - has 20 career starts for trainer Dan Markle with five wins, six seconds and four third place finishes. He has placed in his last four starts - a third in an Allowance last time out April 23 followed wins in an Allowance December 12 and the minor Oakland Stakes in November - all on this track. Star Student races in graded stakes company for the first time Monday in decent form and hopes to make a statement from post 3. Julien Couton will be in the saddle.

Eagle Screams - defending fourth place finisher in this race has 46 career starts with 10 wins, 10 seconds and 10 third place finishes. He has placed in his last four starts ahead of this race - an Allowance Optional Claiming score here February 7 followed a second, a win and a second respectively in Allowance Optional Claiming races on this track. He looks for his first stakes win Monday in just his second graded stakes start - from gate 8 with Brice Blanc aboard.

Southern Freedom - Jerry Hollendorfer pupil has six wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 22 career starts. He won an Allowance Optional Claiming here in October and quickly jumped into stakes company for the first time in November and finished seventh in the Grade 2 Hollywood Turf Cup. Southern Freedom has five starts since since - a fifth in the Grade 2 San Marcos Stakes on this track February 6, a ninth in the Grade 2 San Luis Rey Stakes March 13 and a fifth last time out in the Grade 3 American Stakes last time out May 6 included. He has placed in just one of his last five starts overall and looks for his first stakes win Saturday. Alejandro Gomez gets the call from gate 4.

Docs Legacy - Irish bred Manuel Badilla trained gelding has 42 career starts with 11 wins, eight seconds and seven third place finishes. He made his North American stakes debut April 30 and finished seventh in the Grade 3 San Francisco Mile. Before that he won six of his previous nine starts with a second and a third place finish over that span. He had a two race win streak on this track - both Allowance races with the last coming April 9. He has looked good against lesser competition and hopes for his first ever stakes win from gate 2 Monday. Catalino Martinez rides.

Midnight Bolt - Jeff Bonde trained gelding has placed in seven of nine career starts - three wins, two seconds and two third place finishes. He makes his stakes debut off an Allowance Optional Claiming score May 7 after consecutive thirds in similar races - all on this track. Midnight Bolt has been good against lesser competition and hopes that success will translate in his step up. Kyle Frey has the mount from gate 6.

Eckersley - Scott Hansen trained colt has seven career starts with just one win and a third place finish. He makes his stakes debut having failed to place in his last five starts - a fourth last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming here February 4 followed a seventh, a sixth, a fifth and a fourth in Allowance Optional Claiming races. He steps up in less-than-spectacular form from the rail with Ignacio Puglisi aboard.
