2016 Red Bank Stakes Race Preview at Monmouth Park

Vyjack - won his first four career starts including a pair of graded stakes scores at Aqueduct - the Grade 2 Jerome Stakes and the 2013 Grade 3 Gotham Stakes to start 2014 but has been up and down since. He won the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap September 27, 2014 and followed that with a fifth in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile in November. He had seven starts last year with just a second and a third place finish to show for it - a third in the minor Forbidden Apple Stakes July 11 at Monmouth Park followed an OK second in the Grade 3 Poker Stakes in June. His only start of 2016 was an Allowance score here April 21. Vyjack has been competitive at times - seven wins, two seconds and three third place finishes in 24 career starts enters in typically inconsistent form. He looks for his first stakes score in 21 months Sunday from post 7 with Christopher DeCarlo guiding him.

Rose Brier - finished fourth in this race in both 2014 and 2015 for trainer Jane Cibelli and has been pretty good since last year's edition of this race. He enters on a three race win streak - the minor Henry S. Clark Stakes last time out at Laurel Park April 23, a Starter Optional Claiming at Gulfstream March 24 and the minor Bert Allen Stakes at Laurel Park in September. Before that was a second in the minor West Virginia House of Delegates Speaker's Cup in August. Rose Brier has finished fourth in all four career graded stakes starts and will be out to better that Sunday. He enters in career best form from gate 2 with Trevor McCarthy aboard.

Middleburg - Christophe Clement pupil has placed in 16 of 18 career starts - five wins, eight seconds and three third place finishes. He was last seen running a respectable second in the Grade 3 Miami Mile at Gulfstream April 30 which followed a disappointing sixth in the Grade 3 Knickerbocker Stakes at Monmouth Park in October, first graded stake score - the Grade 3 Cliff Hanger Stakes here August 23 and a pair of good seconds - the Grade 3 Arlington Handicap July 11 and the Grade 2 Monmouth Stakes in June. Middleburg has been competitive every time out and returns to the scene of his best effort to date and a track he's recorded a win and a second in two career starts. Joe Bravo has the mount from gate 6.

Fredericksburg - Michael Matz trained gelding will be after his first win since September, 2013 on Sunday and enters in so-so form. Last time out was a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Laurel Park April 30 which followed a third in the minor Danger's Hour Stakes at Aqueduct April 10 and a fifth in the Grade 3 Canadian Turf Stakes at Gulfstream February 27. He now has three wins, seven seconds and six third place finishes in 29 career starts and looks for his first stakes win from the rail. Nik Juarez gets the call.

Golden Sabre - has 15 career starts for trainer Graham Motion with four wins, three seconds and a third place finish. He enters off an OK second in the minor Henry S. Clark Stakes at Laurel Park April 23 after an eighth in an Allowance Optional Claiming March 11 and a seventh in the Grade 2 Autumn Stakes in November. Before that was a good win in track record time in the Grade 3 Durham Cup Stakes at Woodbine October 3 and two decent runner-up finishes - in the Grade 2 Sky Classic Stakes August 16 and in the Grade 2 Nijinsky Stakes July 19 - both at Woodbine. Golden Sabre has placed in five of his last seven starts overall and hopes that his result last time is proof he's snapped out of a funk. He hopes to rediscover his summer form Sunday from post 5 with Alex Cintron in the irons.

Reporting Star - Elizabeth Voss trained gelding has been up and down in his career. He won the Grade 3 Appleton Stakes two starts back at Gulfstream April 2, the minor El Prado Stakes in December and the Grade 2 Play the King Stakes at 15-1 odds at Woodbine August 23. He also posted a second in the Florida Sunshine Millions Turf back in January (his second straight runner-up finish in that race). Sprinkled in there are some poor results as well including an eighth last time out in the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic at Churchill Downs May 7 and consecutive fifths in Grade 1 races on this track last fall. Reporting Star has shown form in the past but is a tad tough to figure out. He will leave from post 4 Saturday hoping to gain a little consistency with a yet-to-be-determined in the saddle.

Simon Bar Sinister - has three wins, three seconds and four third place finishes for trainer John Mazza. He makes his graded stakes debut off a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming last time out on this track May 28, an eighth in the minor Silks Run Stakes at Gulfstream March 12 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score in that track in February. He also had a third in the minor Sunshine Millions Turf Sprint in January. Simon Bar Sinister steps up in so-so form and will leave from gate 3 with a yet-to-be-determined jockey.

Etruscan - Main Track Only Entry Larry Jones trained colt has four wins, two seconds and a third place finish in 13 career starts. He may make his stakes debut off an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Delaware Park May 21 and consecutive fourths in similar races this past spring.
