2016 Las Flores Stakes Race Preview

Fantastic Style - Bob Baffert trained filly has four wins, a second and a third place finish in six career starts and was last seen winning the Grade 2 Great Lady M Stakes by 3 1/2 lengths at Los Alamitos way back on July 11. Before that was a good win by 3 1/4 lengths in the minor Angels Flight Stakes at Santa Anita May 16 and an OK third in the Grade 2 Beaumont Stakes in April at Keeneland. She has been competitive every time out, has won three of four career starts at Santa Anita and hopes to continue that trend in her first race in eight months when she departs from post 3 with Rafael Bejarano guiding her.

Cadet Roni - highly regarded stakes winning Mark Glatt trained filly has four wins, a second and two third place finishes in 11 career starts makes her graded stakes debut Sunday on the heels of a two race winning streak - the minor Wishing Well Stakes by an impressive 6 3/4 lengths here January 31 and an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track January 10. Before that was a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming in November and a Starter Optional Claiming score in October. She has placed in three of her last four starts overall with three wins over that span and looks ready for her step up in competition. Gary Stevens will be in the saddle from gate 6.

Finest City - has placed in six of eight career starts for trainer Ian Kruljac. Last time out was a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming here February 11 which followed a career best runner-up finish in the Grade 2 Santa Monica Stakes on this track January 23 and a somewhat disappointing sixth in her graded stakes debut - the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes here December 26. She also had an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Los Alamitos December 3, a win in a similar race at Del Mar October 31, a fourth in the minor Unzip Me Stakes here in September and a maiden score at Del Mar in August. Finest City has been decent so far in her career and chases her first stakes win from the rail Saturday. Joe Talamo has the mount.

Ben's Duchess - John Sadler trained filly has hit the board in nine of 11 career starts - four wins, a second and four third place finishes. She has failed to place in her last two starts overall however - an ugly ninth last time out followed a fourth in the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes on this track December 26. Before that was a good win in her graded stakes debut - the Grade 3 LA Woman Stakes by 3 1/4 lengths with a career best 100 Beyer Speed Figure here October 4, a second in her stakes debut - the minor C.E.R.F Stakes at Del Mar September 6 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score in August. Ben's Duchess hopes to return to her early-career form and snap an ugly two race win streak - from gate 4 with Abel Lezcano aboard.

Amaranth - graded stakes placed OJ Jaurequi trained mare has six wins, a second and a third place finish in 17 career starts. She won the 2014 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes and has eight starts since - placing in just three. She won the minor Asparagus Stakes at Stockton September 19, had a third in the minor C.E.R.F. Stakes September 6 and won the minor Desert Stormer Stakes June 14. She also had an eighth in the Grade 2 Great Lady M Stakes in July. Amaranth has continued her inconsistent ways, failing to place in her last two starts overall - a fifth last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming in November followed a fourth in the Grade 3 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes in October. Amaranth is a tad difficult to figure out and will be after her first graded stakes score from post 5 Sunday. William Antongeorgi III gets the call.

Sensitively - Phil D'Amato trained filly has two wins in five career starts. She enters off one of those wins - an Allowance Optional Claiming here February 13 which followed off-the-board finishes in her previous three starts including a sixth in her only stakes action to date - the minor Santa Paula Stakes a year ago. Sensitively has been disappointing before a decent win last time out and will try to make it two wins in a row Sunday. Tyler Baze has been tabbed to ride.
