Hialeah Park Race Track is one of the oldest existing recreational facilities in southern Florida and is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. In summer 2013, Hialeah Park held the grand opening of Hialeah Park Casino, part of multi-million dollar development plan. The 2013-14 racing season includes 40 days of racing with daily purses totaling $140,000.

Hialeah Park History

Hialeah Park was originally opened in 1921 by aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss and his partner James Bright. The Miami Jockey Club launched Hialeah's race track on January 25, 1925.

Previous to its closure in 2001, the 92-year-old facility was a hotspot for Thoroughbred racing, and a well-traveled spot on the road to the Kentucky Derby. The Flamingo Stakes, named for Hialeah's signature pink infield inhabitants, was considered a critical prep for the Derby. Since reopening in 2009, the track hosts Quarter Horse racing exclusively and its schedule includes 27 stakes races worth more than $1.2 million and the Hialeah Futurity, a 440-yard contest for 2-year-olds which is worth $200,000 added.
