Breeders' Cup Press release by Ren Carothers

The $2M NetJets Juvenile Fillies on the Future Stars Friday card, with a full field of fourteen lasses going 8.5 furlongs on the main track.

#1 Vegas Magic (30-1)

Breeder: Machmer Hall

Owner: Omar Aldabbagh, Todd Cady, and Ty Leatherman

Trainer: Doug O'Neil

Jockey: Jose Ortiz

Vegas Magic is a first crop baby of 2017's Breeders' Cup Juvenile and Eclipse champion two-year-old, Good Magic, who is himself a son of Hall of Famer Curlin. Her mom, Heidi Maria, was a multiple stakes-winner. It's also noteworthy that her damsire, Rockport Harbor, a son of 1995's Breeders' Cup Juvenile victor, Unbridled's Song, was undefeated as a two-year-old. She was fourth, beaten 12 lengths in the Del Mar Debutante, in which she had drawn the rail. The loss was her first, as she went into the race undefeated in three career starts, among those victories the G2 Sorrento.

#2 You're My Girl (10-1)

Breeder: James Doyle

Owner: Gatsas Stables, R. A. Hill Stable, Hidden Brook Farm

Trainer: John Terranova, II

Jockey: John Velazquez

You're My Girl exits a runner-up finish, beaten a length, to Chocolate Gelato in the G1 Frizette over sloppy/sealed conditions at Belmont at the Big A. She was making just the second start of her career, and was following a 14-1/2 lengths debut exhibition at Saratoga. She's a daughter of Overanalyze (who was campaigned by Pletcher and Repole), and out of the Indian Charlie mare Peace Queen, who is a ½ sister to G2W/G1P Tizaqueena.

#3 And Tell Me Nolies (8-1)

Breeder: Lara Run LLC

Owner: Peter Redekop BC Ltd

Trainer: Peter Miller

Jockey: Ramon Vazquez

A fun note about Tell Me Nolies, who is in off a natural hat-trick which includes the G1 Del Mar Debutante and the "Win and You're In" G2 Chandelier, is that she was pinhooked by Wonder Wheel's D.J. Stables, who will start Wonder Wheel. She's proven quite the acquisition for owner Peter Redekop and trainer Peter Miller, having won three of-four starts, the only loss coming on debut.

The G1 Chandelier, in which she punched her ticket to the Juvenile Fillies, was her first time routing. She stumbled at the start, but this second-crop representative of the late, great Arrogate (who won a kind of "Triple Crown" for older horses in annexing the 2016 Classic and the 2017 Pegasus and Dubai World Cups), showed her class to get up for the win. Her dam, Be Fair by Exchange Rate, is a G3 winner and G1 placed with a show dough finish in the Apple Blossom. Be Fair is also a half-sister to G1 winner and millionaire, Macho Again.

#4 Sabra Tuff (30-1)

Breeder: Tom Curtis and Wayne Simpson

Owner: Valene Farms LLC

Trainer: Dallas Stewart

Jockey: Paco Lopez

She has just the maiden score in the win column, but has been competitively throwing down in the graded-stakes ranks with a runner-up performance to Wonder Wheel in the Debutante and a third to the previously entered Naughty Gal. Granted, she finished fifth in both G1s, the Spinaway and the "Wine and You're In" Darley Alcibiades, but you never know how a two-year-old might suddenly show up. This miss is a daughter of G1 Whitney winner Cross Traffic, whose daughter, Jaywalk, triumphed in the Juvenile Fillies for D.J. Stable back in 2018.

Her dam, Cactus Cadillac, is a stakes-winning daughter of Cactus Ridge, a stallion who was undefeated as a two-year-old. Sabra Tuff is a half-sister to stakes-winner, multiple G2 placed, Thegreatcollection. He won the Dubai Creek Mile and was 2nd in the Al Maktoum Challenge R1 and R2. Additionally, Sabra Tuff's second dam, Plum Country, picked up multiple stakes wins, most notably the G3 Davona Dale.

#5 Wonder Wheel (5-1)

Breeder: Three Chimneys Farm and Clearsky Farm

Owner: D. J. Stable

Trainer: Mark Casse

Jockey: Tyler Gaffalione

Wonder Wheel has won three-of-four starts. She went into the Spinaway already a stakes winner having crossed the wire 6-3/4 lengths the better of Sabra Tuff in the Debutante Stakes at Churchill Downs. She may have needed a race when contesting the G1 Spinaway, as she certainly was fit to get the job done on the front end in the G1 Darley Alcibiades. She is a daughter of Into Mischief, who is himself a half-brother to Breeders' Cup Champions Beholder (2012 Juvenile Fillies, 2013 and 2016 Distaff) and Mendelssohn (2017 Juvenile Turf).

Her dam, Wonder Gal by Tiz Wonderful, was 2nd in the 2014 G1 Frizette before a show dough finish in the BC Juvenile Fillies. She was also second in the G1 Mother Goose at three-years-old and third in the Acorn. Wonder Wheel's second dam, Passe by Dixie Union was unraced, but a ½ sister to multiple graded stakes-winner Social Queen (Eatontown, Gallorette). Social Queen went on to produce G1 millionaire Force the Pass, whose wins include the Belmont Derby Invitational.

#6 Alma Rosa (30-1)

Breeder: Gelfenstein Farm

Owner: Gelfenstein Farm

Trainer: Bernardo Lopez

Jockey: Jaime Rodriguez

Alma Rosa is a first-crop daughter of Sharp Azteca and out of the Cape Cross (IRE) mare Capeslew (IRE). While that pedigree certainly leans turf between Sharp Azteca being a son of Freud and the Irish-bred bottom-side, she has raced exclusively on the dirt, where she has picked up two wins and two seconds in four career starts. She's in off a 3-1/4 lengths score in the White Clay Creek over muddy/sealed going at Delaware Park and will now stretch to the 8.5 furlongs for the first time.

#7 Chop Chop (9-2)

Breeder: Cobra Farm and MRJ Thoroughbreds

Owner: Selective LLC

Trainer: Brad Cox

Jockey: Joel Rosario

Chop Chop came up a just nose short in the Darley Alcibiades, and thus suffered her first defeat. She had won her first two starts, both on turf, and the last being a stakes score over yielding ground in the Juvenile Fillies at Kentucky Downs. The Brad Cox trainee is owned by Selective, and is first crop representative of 2018's Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile victor, City of Light, who stands at Lane's End.

Her dam, Grand Sofia, is by Giant's Causeway, and a half-sister to Rail Trip, who set a new track record winning the Hollywood Gold Cup on the all-weather. He was also second to Tapizar in the 2012 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita. The family also includes multiple G1 winner and multi-millionaire Palace Malice, who counts amongst his accomplishments the Belmont Stakes and Metropolitan Handicap.

#8 Atomically (12-1)

Breeder: Tracy Pinchin and Michael Bernard

Owner: Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Michael Bernard, Harry Colburn

Trainer: Todd Pletcher

Jockey: Luis Saez

Trainer Todd Pletcher is represented by two entrants, both of whom have won two-of-three starts and are in off stakes victories, Atomically and Chocolate Gelato. The former steps out of Florida-bred competition off a 6-3/4 lengths score in the My Dear Girl. This will be her first start for Pletcher, as she was previously trained by Jose Pinchin, who was also listed as co-owner.

Atomically is a first-crop daughter of G1 Haskell Stakes winner Girvin and out of Shesunbelievable, who is by 2012 Sovereign Horse of the Year and champion two-year-old male, Uncaptured. The family also includes G1 winner Collins (Selima, 2nd Frizette).

#9 Grand Love (20-1)

Breeder: Three Chimneys Farm

Owner: Three Chimneys Farm

Trainer: Steve Asmussen

Jockey: Florent Geroux

Grand Love got the lead but tired late in the G3 Pocahontas, making the second start of her career and off a gate-to-wire score from the rail on debut. Fellow entrant, Shoplifter, finished 1-3/4 lengths ahead of her in second. Grand Love is a daughter of 2017's Horse of the Year, Gun Runner, whose first-crop daughter, Echo Zulu, won last year's Juvenile Fillies and Eclipse honors - both trained, like Grand Love, by Steven Asmussen. Grand Love is out of Grand Prayer by Grand Slam.

She is a stakes-winner and already produced a G1 winner in Malibu Prayer (Ruffian Invitational Handicap) and a millionaire in Valid. Grand Prayer is also a half-sister to G1 Carter winner Swagger Jack, G2 winner Tap Dance (Bonnie Miss) and to the stakes-placed Lyrical Ghost. Lyrical Ghost produced Silverside, who was named Horse of the Year, champion-three-year-old male, champion grass horse, champion miler, and champion older horse in Spain. Additionally, the family includes Silent Screen, 1969's champion two-year-old colt.

#10 Chocolate Gelato (7-2)

Breeder: Vincent Colbert

Owner: Repole Stable

Trainer: Todd Pletcher

Jockey: Irad Ortiz, Jr.

Chocolate Gelato debuted in a 5.5 furlongs sprint at Saratoga and landed the show dough. The benefit of experience led to an 8-1/2 lengths romp in start two and she obtained berth in start three, taking the G1 Frizette over sloppy/sealed going at Belmont at the Big A. This daughter of Into Mischief scion, Practical Joke, is out of the Candy Ride (ARG) mare, Special Treat.

Her particular branch of the 1-x female family is responsible for producing the likes of Numbered Account, Imagining, Super Saver, Callback, Girolamo, and Rhythm, the latter of which won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile in 1989.

#11 American Rockette (20-1)

Breeder: Frank Fletcher

Owner: Frank Fletcher Racing Operations

Trainer: William Mott

Jockey: Junior Alvarado

American Rockette has ability, but has been up against it the last two starts. After winning her debut by 2-1/2 lengths, she drew the far-outside in the Spinaway which led to her bolting when the gates open and a trip with plenty of lost ground. She ultimately finished 3-1/4 lengths back of Leave No Trace. Then it's fair to wonder if the sloppy conditions played a role in her fourth-place finish in the Frizette. Her half-sister, Frank's Rockette, also owned and bred by Frank Fletcher, ran 2nd in both the Spinaway and Frizette of 2019 before going to become a multiple G2 winner.

American Rockette is a daughter of "Grand Slam" champion American Pharoah and out of Rocket Twentyone, by Indian Charlie. The family also includes G1-winning, multimillionaire and two-time champion, Indian Blessing. She was champion female sprinter in 2008 (was also 2nd in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint) and had clinched two-year-old filly honors the year before with a campaign that include victory in the Juvenile Fillies.

#12 Shoplifter (20-1)

Breeder: Douglas Scharbauer

Owner: Anderson Stables LLC and Eddie Kenneally

Trainer: Eddie Kenneally

Jockey: Martin Garcia

The G3 Pocahontas runner-up, Shoplifter is a daughter of Derby victor Super Saver. It was an improvement from a fifth-place finish in the 7 furlongs Debutante in which she had drawn the rail. Shoplifter is out of New Shaker by Bernstein. New Shaker is a half-sister to stakes winner/graded-stakes placed Molto Grande.

She's also a three-quarter sibling to Atrea, who produced stakes winner Quinoa Tifah. What is particularly interesting is Shoplifter and Chocolate Gelato share the same direct family, as Shoplifter's third dam is graded-stakes winner Get Lucky - full-sister to the aforementioned Rhythm, and dam of Girolamo and Chocolate Gelato's own third dam, G2 winner Daydreaming. Recall, also, that Shoplifter's own sire, Super Saver, is part of this family, with Get Lucky being his second dam.

#13 Leave No Trace (15-1)

Breeder: Red Cloak Farm

Owner: WellSpring Stables

Trainer: Philip Serpe

Jockey: Jose Lezcano

The Spinaway winner, fellow entrant Leave No Trace, went on to run third in the Frizette. It was her first defeat in three starts. She had won the Spinaway 1-1/2 lengths the better of Wonder Wheel, who was in off a freshener and would go on to score a ticket to the Juvenile Fillies taking the G1 Darley Alcibiades at Keeneland.

Leave No Trace is a daughter of another Repole/Pletcher stablemate in WinStar stallion Outwork - who is himself by Uncle Mo, who won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and Eclipse honors in 2010 for the team. Her dam, Tanquerray, is by Good Journey. He was on a four-race winning streak that included the G1 Atto Mile when he had to settle for the show dough in the 2022 Breeders' Cup Mile.

#14 Raging Sea (6-1)

Breeder: Alpha Delta Stables LLC

Owner: Alpha Delta Stables LLC

Trainer: Chad Brown

Jockey: Flavien Prat

Raging Sea is another Alcibiades graduate and was making just the second start of her career. While she crossed the wire in third, just a neck off Wonder Wheel, she was disqualified for an incident in stretch and placed fourth. She's a daughter of Hall of Famer Curlin, and her dam, Stormy Welcome by Storm Cat, is out of a Welcome Surprise, who is a half-sister to another - A.P. Indy.

As you can imagine, this is a tremendously deep and illustrious family, but the lone name of one breed-shaping stallion such as A.P. Indy should suffice to speak to class, though we could also namedrop Summer Squall, Raja Baba, etcetera...
