Shagaf Wins Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack
Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, New York played host to the $400,000 Grade 3 Gotham Stakes on Saturday, March 5 - a 1 1/16 mile dirt test on Aqueduct's inner track. Shadwell Stable's 6-5 race favorite Shagaf proved to be best on the day, winning by 1 1/4 lengths and earning 50 qualifying points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. 15-1 shot Laoban came across the wire second and earned 20 qualifying points while Adventist finished third at 9-2 odds, claiming 10 points and Withers Stakes winner, 4-1 second choice Sunny Ridge got in for a non-threatening fourth. Conquest Big E, Rally Cry, and Vincento completed the order of finish. Mo Power was scratched.
