Deauville Wins Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes at Belmont Park
The $1.25 million Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes was run at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York on Saturday, July 9 - a 1 1/4 miles Inner Turf track race for three year olds. In his first U.S. start, 6-1 co-third choice Deauville emerged victorious by a neck over the field of 13, holding off the late charging Highland Sky who was also sent off at 6-1 and Beach Patrol who got up for third at 8-1 odds. 5-1 second choice Camelot Kitten finished fourth followed by Surgical Strike, 5-2 favorite Long Island Sound who was a disappointing sixth, Applicator, Ralis, Humphrey Bogart (IRE), Airoforce, Aquaphobia, Toughest 'Ombre and Call Provision to complete the order of finish.
