Joking Wins Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park

Belmont Park in Elmont, New York played host to the $350,000 Grade 1 Vosburgh Stakes on Saturday, October 1 - a six furlong dash for horses three years old and upward. Intrigue surrounded the start of this race with the late scratch of A.P. Indian. 7-year-old, 4-1 third choice Joking took advantage in his first start in 3 1/2 months and prevailed by a length. Joking earned an automatic starting berth in the Breeders' Cup Sprint November 5 at Santa Anita Park with the win. 7-1 shot Stallwalkin' Dude finished second in the field of seven while Weekend Hideaway got in for third at 7-1 odds. 3-1 second choice Holy Boss was fourth while 6-5 favorite X Y Jet, Dannie's Deceiver and Green Gratto completed the order of finish. A. P. Indian, as mentioned, scratched.
