California Chrome Wins Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs
Las Vegas, NV - The biggest horse race on North American soil - the $2 million Kentucky Derby went down on Saturday, May 3 from Churchill Downs. It was 5-2 favorite California Chrome that came out on top for his fifth straight impressive win for trainer Art Sherman - this time by a relatively easy 1 3/4 lengths. California Chrome looks every bit like a Triple Crown threat after not being touched the last six months! 37-1 shot Commanding Curve took advantage of the injury to Hoppertunity and drew a start in the Derby finishing a very good second while Danza was third at 8-1 odds. Wicked Strong, the 6-1 second choice, was fourth. Samraat was fifth, followed by Dance With Fate, Ride On Curlin, Medal Count, Chitu, We Miss Artie, General a Rod, Intense Holiday, Candy Boy, Uncle Sigh, Tapiture, Harry's Holiday, Vinceremos, and Wildcat Red. Vicar's In Trouble, ridden by Rosie Napravnik, finished last.
