Stellar Wind Wins Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar
Del Mar racetrack in Del Mar, California played host to the $300,000 Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes on Saturday, July 30 - a 1 1/16 miles dirt test for fillies and mares three years old and upward. It was a race between reigning Eclipse Award winners Stellar Wind and three-time Champion Beholder who came into the race on a terrific eight race win streak. The underdog Stellar Wind prevailed in a superb duel down the stretch - by just a half length as 9-2 second betting choice. 1-9 favorite Beholder wound up a disappointing second in the field of five while 24-1 third choice Divina Comedia was another 9 3/4 lengths back in third. Off the Road and The Dream finished yet another 11 1/4 lengths back of that to complete the order of finish.
