Free Rose Wins La Jolla Handicap at Del Mar Race Track

The $150,000 Grade 3 La Jolla Handicap was contested Saturday, August 6 at Del Mar racetrack in Del Mar, California. Three year olds were featured as they took to Del Mar's turf track and raced 1 1/16 miles. Abbondanza Racing's 28-1 longshot Free Rose turned in the huge upset after seizing control early and never letting up. 7-1 shot Lucky Brian finished a half length back in second while 7-2 second choice Moonlight Drive got up for third in the field of 10. 2-1 favorite Monster Bea finished a disappointing fourth followed by Liam the Charmer, Dressed in Hermes, Mr. Roary, Ebadan, Burger and Fries, and Imperious One, to complete the order of finish.
