California Chrome Wins San Diego Handicap at Del Mar Race Track
All eyes were on Del Mar racetrack on Saturday, July 23 when the $200,000 Grade 2 San Diego Handicap was contested - a race that featured none other than California Chrome. To nobody's surprise, it was 4-5 race favorite Chrome that came out on top in the field of just five in a scintillating duel with 6-5 second choice Dortmund who held the lead for a while in the stretch but had to settle for second - a half length back. 5-1 third choice Win the Space finished 7 1/4 lengths behind in third while Follow Me Crev and Crittenden completed the order of finish. Hard Aces and Soi Phet scratched - Hard Aces will run the Cougar II on Sunday.
