Mohaymen Wins Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park
The $400,000 Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes was contested at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida on Saturday, February 27 - a 1 1/16 mile dirt test for some of the best three year olds in the land. Shadwell Stable's undefeated 2-5 favorite Mohaymen proved why he is regarded as one of the ones to beat in the Kentucky Derby when he took down the field of six by a relatively easy 2 1/4 lengths. With the win Mohaymen earned 50 qualifying points toward the Run for the Roses and vaulted himself into top spot in the standings with 71. Todd Pletcher trained 4-1 second choice Zulu finished second and earned 20 points with Fellowship getting third and 10 qualifying points at 22-1 odds. Awesome Speed claimed the last of the qualifying points in fourth while Awesome Banner and Golden Ray completed the order of finish.
