Irish War Cry Wins Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park

The $350,000 G2 Lambholm South Holy Bull Stakes was run Saturday, February 4 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida, a 1 1/16 miles dirt test for three year olds and "Road to the Kentucky Derby" points qualifier. It was Isabelle de Tomaso's unbeaten homebred and 3-1 third betting choice Irish War Cry that opened a few eyes in this race upsetting a quality field in front-running fashion by an impressive 3 3/4 lengths. He gained 10 points toward Kentucky Derby qualifying with the win. 3-1 second choice Gunnevera finished a good second in the field that was trimmed to seven while newly minted Eclipse Award winning 2-year-old colt and heavy 1-2 favorite Classic Empire struggled home to a third place finish. Talk Logistics was fourth while Cavil and Perro Rojo completed the order of finish. Shamsaan was pulled up while far back in the stretch but was able to walk off. Fact Finding and Fire for Effect were scratched.
