John Oxley's 8-5 race favorite Classic Empire bounced back from a DNF in the Hopeful Stakes when he lost his rider and posted the three length victory. 18-1 shot Lookin at Lee finished second in the field of 12 while 42-1 longshot Wild Shot got up for third. No Dozing finished another head back in fourth as the 6-1 co-second choice and was followed in order by Gunnevera, Singing Bullet, the other 6-1 second choice Bitumen, Tiz Trevor, Blame Will, Perro Rojo, Holiday Bonus, and Honor Thy Father.
