Exaggerator Wins Haskell Invitational Stakes at Monmouth Park
The biggest race of the weekend - the $1 million Haskell Invitational Stakes went down Sunday, July 31 at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey. Horses three years old and upward were featured when they took to Monmouth Park's dirt track and raced 1 1/16 miles. Big Chief Racing, Head of Plains Partners, and Rocker O Ranch's Exaggerator who was sent off as the 5-2 second choice survived an objection and bested the strong field of six by 1 1/2 lengths. American Freedom finished a good second at 5-1 odds with New Jersey-bred 31-1 shot Sunny Ridge another two lengths back in third. Kentucky Derby winner and even money favorite Nyquist finished a disappointing fourth while Gun Runner and Awesome Slew completed the order of finish.
