Middleburg Wins Red Bank Stakes at Monmouth Park
The $100,000 Grade 3 Red Bank Stakes was contested on Monmouth Park turf in Oceanport, New Jersey on Sunday, June 5 - a one mile race for horses three years old and upward. Mr. and Mrs. Bertram Firestone's homebred, 2-1 second betting choice Middleburg continued his good fortune at Monmouth as he passed the leaders in the stretch and emerged by a neck. 5-2 third choice Vyjack rallied late and finished second in the six horse field while Rose Brier claimed third at 4-1 odds. Golden Sabre closed well to finish fourth, followed by Fredericksburg, and 9-5 favorite Reporting Star, to complete the order of finish. Etruscan and Simon Bar Sinister scratched.
