Madefromlucky Wins West Virginia Derby at Mountaineer Park

Las Vegas, NV - Mountaineer Park in New Cumberland, West Virginia was the scene of the $750,000 Grade 2 West Virginia Derby on Saturday, August 1. Horses three years old and upward were featured as they took to Mountaineer's dirt track and went 1 1/8 miles. Cheyenne Stables and Mac Nichol's 5-2 slight choice Madefromlucky rallied from off the pace to post the 1 1/2 length victory. War Story also made an impressive comeback and finished second after trailing for the majority of the race while Souper Colossal got in for third. Completing the order were Iron Fist, Thirtypiecesofsilver, Tale of Verve, Tommy Macho, Bent On Bourbon, and Alliseeisgold. Tekton and Stanford scratched to run the Curlin Stakes.
