Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort in New Cumberland, West Virginia played host to the $750,000 G3 West Virginia Derby on Saturday, August 6. Horses three years old lined up on Mountaineer's dirt track and raced 1 1/8 miles. 8-1 shot Colonelsdarktemper, under the guidance of 56-year-old jockey Jon Court turned in a career-best effort in the race, leading all the way and prevailing by one length. Game Over finished a decent second at 12-1 odds in the field of 10 while 3-1 favorite Lookin At Lee, runner-up in the Kentucky Derby rallied from last to get up for third. 7-2 second choice Patch was fourth with Silver Dust, Phat Man, McCormick, B Squared, Impressive Edge and Heartwood completing the order of finish.
