California Chrome Wins San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita Park
Las Vegas, NV - Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California hosted the $300,000 Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes on Saturday, March 8 - a "Road to the Kentucky Derby" point's race for three year old hopefuls. 7-5 Favorite California Chrome proved to be much the best on the afternoon winning by an impressive 7 1/2 lengths in the 1 1/16 mile test. In turn California Chrome all but qualified for the Run for the Roses with his 50 point haul. Midnight Hawk was a distant second while still 6 1/4 lengths clear of third-place Kristo. Schoolofhardrocks, Unstoppable Colby, Recanted, and Sawyer's Hill completed the order. Early favorite Bayern was forced to withdraw due to a foot bruise while Home Run Kitten and Rprettyboyfloyd also scratched.
