California Chrome Wins Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita Park

Las Vegas, NV - The $1 million Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby took place on Saturday, April 5 - and acted as one of the final four huge points gathering races along the "Road to the Kentucky Derby". 4-5 favorite California Chrome staked his claim as one of the horses to beat in the Run for the Roses with an easy 5 1/4 length victory. California Chrome gained 100 more qualifying points toward the Derby and now leads the overall standings with 150. Rebel Stakes winner and third choice on the betting line Hoppertunity was the distant second-place finisher, while Candy Boy, the Robert B. Lewis victor faded to third and will likely be on the cusp when it comes time to naming the starters for the May 3 race. Dublin Up held on for fourth, followed by Big Tire, Rprettyboyfloyd, Friendswith K Mill, and Schoolofhardrocks.
