Las Vegas, NV - The $200,000 Grade 2 San Luis Rey Stakes was contested on Santa Anita Park turf on Saturday, March 21 - a 1 1/4 mile test for older horses. Peter Eurton trained Ashleyluvssugar recorded his first graded stakes win at 5-1 odds - by 2 1/4 lengths over heavy 3-5 favorite Finnegans Wake. Second choice Power Foot finished third while Play Hard to Get was 5 1/2 lengths back of the show spot in fourth place. Buymeabond, Raise Your Gaze, Diamond Bachelor, and Joes Blazing Aaron to completed the order of finish.
