Danzing Candy Wins San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita Park
Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California was the scene of the $400,000 Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes on Saturday, March 12 - a 1 1/16 mile dirt test for some of the best three year olds in the land. It was 5-1 fourth choice Danzing Candy that opened more than just a few eyes in the Road to the Kentucky Derby qualifier, winning in gate-to-wire fashion by an impressive two lengths. With the win, Danzing Candy put himself on the path toward a start in the Run for the Roses thanks to his 50 point haul. 8-5 favorite Mor Spirit finished second in the field of just six and gained 20 qualifying points toward the Derby with 2-1 second choice Exaggerator claiming third and 10 points. Uncle Lino faded to fourth, followed by Smokey Image and I Will Score, to complete the order of finish. Cupid scratched.
