The $1 million Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby was run on a sloppy Santa Anita dirt track on Saturday, April 9 and was the final Road to the Kentucky Derby qualifying race for three year olds on the day. 3-1 third choice Exaggerator seemed to relish the slop and came back from as much as 15 lengths behind to secure an impressive 6 1/4 lengths, earning the 100 qualifying points toward a start in the Run for the Roses. He's assured a starting spot. 7-5 favorite Mor Spirit finished second and gained 40 qualifying points with Uncle Lino getting third and 20 points at 16-1 odds. 8-5 second choice Danzing Candy finished fourth and got 10 points while Diplodocus, Denman's Call, Smokey Image and Iron Rob completed the order of finish.
