Songbird Wins Summertime Oaks at Santa Anita Park

The $200,000 Grade 2 Summertime Oaks was contested Saturday, June 18 at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California - a 1 1/16 mile dirt race for three year old fillies. To absolutely nobody's surprise, the terrific undefeated champion 2-year-old filly - overwhelming 1-9 favorite Songbird emerged victorious in a field that was trimmed to just 5 - by an impressive 6 1/2 lengths. 7-1 second choice Bellamentary who actually held the lead through the first turn finished second while fast-closing 31-1 shot Kay Kay got in for third. That's a Lady finished an even fourth, followed by Sutton's Smile, to complete the order of finish. Coppa and Not Now Carolyn were scratched.
