Gormley Wins Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita Park

The $1 million G1 Santa Anita Derby went down Saturday, April 8 at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. Three year old Kentucky Derby hopefuls took to Santa Anita's dirt track and raced 1 1/8 miles for the winner's share of the purse and the 100-40-20-10 points scale awarded for its first through fourth place finishers. Ann Moss' 6-1 third betting choice Gormley was best on the day, emerging in the field of 13 and punching his ticket to the Run for the Roses with his 100 point haul. Battle of Midway finished a good second at 7-1 odds, a half length back in second with 11-1 shot Royal Mo getting in for third. 3-1 co favorite Reach the World was fourth while the other 3-1 favorite Iliad, Kimbear, Term of Art, Irish Freedom, Milton Freewater, Midnight Pleasure, So Conflated, American Anthem and Comma Sister completed the order of finish.
