Portrade Wins New York Turf Writers Cup Handicap at Saratoga Race Course

The Grade 1 New York Turf Writers Cup Handicap went down Thursday, August 25 at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York - a 2 3/8 mile hurdle race for horses four years old and upward. The Fields Stable's Portrade took the lead early and never relinquished as he won by one length as the second longest shot in the field (12-1). 20-1 shot Andi'amu made a strong bid but came up just short in second in the field of six while 3-1 second choice Scorpiancer finished third, 1 1/2 lengths farther back. Schoodic finished a disappointing fourth while Charminister was fifth at 8-1 odds. Bob Le Beau, the 3-to-5 favorite was unfortunately humanely euthanized after being injured in the second of five turns.
