West Coast Wins Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course
The biggest race of the weekend - the $1.25 million G1 Travers Stakes went down Saturday, August 26 at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York. Some of the best three-year olds in the land took to Saratoga's dirt track and raced 1 1/4 miles. It was California shipper West Coast, who was sent off at 6-1 odds that further made a mess of the Three-year-old division with an impressive breakthrough 3 1/4 length win. There was a stewards' inquiry into the stretch run regarding the second- and third-place finishers - 24-1 shot Gunnevera held for second with 5-1 second choice Irap claiming third. Tapwrit was fourth at 6-1 odds in the field of 12 while slight 7-2 favorite Good Samaritan, Giuseppe the Great, McCraken, Cloud Computing, Always Dreaming, Lookin At Lee, Girvin and Fayeq completed the order of finish.
