The Pizza Man Wins Northern Dancer Turf Stakes at Woodbine Racetrack

Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario played host to the $300,000 Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes on Saturday, September 17 - a 1 1/2 miles turf test for horses three years old and upward. It was Illinois-bred 5-1 shot The Pizza Man who was best on the day. He showed his class in rebounding from a disappointing sixth last time out in the Arlington Millions, prevailing by a neck over a fast closing fellow 5-1 shot Wake Forest who got in for second. Tepid 5-2 favorite World Approval wound up third in the field of eight while Majeed, the lone European invader was fourth followed by Danish Dynaformer, Camp Creek, Button Down and Big Blue Kitten, the 3-1 second choice to complete the order of finish.
