Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario was the scene of the $400,000 G1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes on Saturday, September 16 - a 1 1/2-mile turf test for horses three years old and upward. John Burness's 9-1 shot Johnny Bear finally scored his first graded stakes win in his 33rd career start, stretching out at the wire and getting by the game 3-5 favorite Hawkbill who led most of the way but settled for second. 4-1 second choice Messi finished well to claim third in the field of eight while Seeking Albert was fourth and English Illusion, 5-1 third choice Noble Thought, Pumpkin Rumble and Camp Creek completed the order of finish.
