Las Vegas, NV - Aqueduct Race Track in New York will be the scene of the Grade 3 Fall Highweight Handicap this Thursday, November 22. Horses three years old and upward will be featured as they dash six furlongs on Aqueduct's main track in search of their share of the $150,000 purse.
A small field of six has been assembled for the Fall Highweight which is race 8 on Aqueduct's Thursday card. Post time is 2:42 PM. Let's take a look at the credentials of all six entries and what brought them to this Grade 3 race.
Poseidon's Warrior - most recently finished a disappointing fourteenth in the Breeders' Cup Sprint. He came out of nowhere and won the Grade 1 Vanderbilt Handicap August 5 at 36-1 odds however at Saratoga and followed that with another reasonable effort - a third in the Grade 1 Vosburgh September 29 - those two results being the only money finishes he's had this year. He was in decent form before the Breeders' Cup and will be looking to rebound from an ugly result last time out.
Caixa Electronica - Todd Pletcher trained Caixa Electronica had won two big races in three starts - the Grade 2 Charles Town Classic Stakes on April 4 and the Grade 2 True North Handicap on June 8 before stumbling in the next three races - a fifth in the Grade 3 James Marvin on July 20, an eighth in the Grade 1 Whitney Invitational on August 4 and a fourth in the Grade 1 Forgo on September 1. He had a good second to The Lumber Guy in the Grade 1 Vosburgh at September 29 but finished seventh last time out on the Grade 3 Bold Ruler. Caixa Electronica is hot and cold as they come - three good wins, a second and a third in 11 starts this year to go with some seriously unflattering results.
This Ones for Phil - is a graded stakes winner that has four starts in 2012 with two wins and two second place finishes. He had a second two back in the Grade 2 General George Handicap at Laurel Park and followed that with an OK second in the Diablo Stakes at Belmont Park way back in May. It has been over six months since This Ones for Phil has seen the track for trainer Richard Dutrow.
Willy Beamin - enters the Discovery looking to rebound from a respectable second to Politicallycorrect in the Oklahoma Derby and another second last time out in the Grade 3 Discovery Handicap here last week after six, count `em six straight wins including the Grade 1 King's Bishop at Saratoga in August in his graded stakes debut. Prior to that race were two minor stakes wins in New York and a host of Allowance races. Willy Beamin hasn't been used to losing and has to be in the conversation for Thursday.
Mine Over Matter - Multiple stakes winner is coming off a minor stakes score last time out - the Hudson at Belmont Park October 20. He has two wins, a second and two third place finishes in seven starts this year but has yet to step up in graded stakes action.
Small Town Talk - finished third behind Gourmet Dinner and Ponzi Scheme in the Majestic Light Stakes in his stakes debut and followed that with a decent third in the Grade 3 Philip Iselin and a second last time out in the Frank "Pancho" Martin Stakes October 19.
