Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 Acorn Stakes takes place this Holiday Monday May 28th from Belmont Park as part of the undercard for the $750,000 Metropolitan Mile. Three year old fillies will race one mile around one turn for a $300,000 purse.
The Acorn, which is traditionally on the Belmont Stakes program, has been moved this year to become part of the Memorial stacked card that includes three Grade 1 races. The Acorn goes as race 9 on Belmont's Monday card with a post time of 5:14 PM - quite a warm-up for the Metropolitan Mile that follows. Six horses are entered - let's meet them.
On Fire Baby - is a three time graded stakes winner but is coming off a disappointing fifth last time out on the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks after a very impressive win in the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes at Oaklawn on March 10th. On Fire Baby won the Grade 2 Golden Rod Stakes back in November and followed it up with a third in the Smarty Jones at Oaklawn. On Fire Baby has four wins in seven career starts with one third place finish. She will break from a favorable post 3 in the Acorn.
Contested - Bob Baffert trained Contested has only four career starts with three wins and a second place finish. After an overwhelming win against an Allowance field on April 15th, she was able to prove that her results weren't a fluke. Contested went on to win the Grade 3 Eight Belles Stakes at Churchill Downs on May 4th in very impressive fashion and should be on the Acorn radar.
Sacristy - won the Grade 3 Old Hat Stakes at Gulfstream on January 1st and followed that result up with a third place finish in the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes at Gulfstream on January 29th before enduring a 2-month layoff. Since her return Sacristy finishes an impressive second in the Grade 2 Beaumont at Keeneland on April 15th but followed that up with a disappointing seventh in the Kentucky Oaks

Zo Impressive - won her first two career starts - an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream on February 25th and a Maiden Special Weight race on January 22nd also at Gulfstream. She followed that up with an impressive second behind Grace Hall last time out in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Oaks Stakes on March 31st.
