Bed 'O Roses Handicap at Belmont Park

Las Vegas, NV - New York's Belmont Park will be the scene for the 56th running of the Grade 3 Bed 'O Roses Handicap this Sunday, July 1st. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will be after their share of the $150,000 purse when they dash seven furlongs on Belmont's main track.

A field of seven females have been entered for the Bed O' Roses. It is race 9 on Belmont Park's Saturday card with a 5:06 PM post time. Here is a look at the seven combatants and what brought them to this Grade 3 event.

2012 Bed 'O Roses Handicap Race Favorites

C C's Pal - has had quite a 2012 so far. Last time out was an impressive win in the Grade 2 Vagrancy Handicap to follow up second place finishes in both the Grade 2 Distaff and the My Juliet Stakes. Before that she was third in the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie. C C's Pal has placed in her last eight starts with four wins, two seconds and two third place finishes. She has faced some very tough competition in the last few months and has come out of it looking very, very solid.

Derwin's Star - started the year with a seventh in the Florida Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Sprint Stakes and has followed it up with a win in a Starter Handicap at Aqueduct on April 22nd. Last time out Derwin's Star was an OK third in the My Juliet Stakes at Parx Racing. She has yet to win a graded stakes race but is second choice despite the inconsistent results.

Bed 'O Roses Handicap 2012 | Remaining Field Entries

Island Bound - has been terrific so far in 2012 - three wins and three second place finishes in six starts this year. Her most impressive win came in the Grade 3 Winning Colors Stakes last time out at Churchill Downs on June 2nd in her graded stakes debut. Island Bound's other two wins this year came in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Tampa Bay in February and an Allowance on that same track in January. Her seconds this year have included the Sugar Maple Stakes and the Langhorne Stakes.

Twice the Lady - will make her stakes debut on Sunday after a win and four seconds in Allowance Optional Claiming races in 2012. Twice the Lady has four wins in 14 career starts. She has been cross-entered in the Eatontown Handicap.

Bed 'O Roses Handicap betting at Belmont Park with

Catch a Thief - multiple graded staked placed Catch a Thief is coming off a decent third in the Grade 3 Distaff Stakes at Pimlico to follow up a win in the minor Plugged Nickel Stakes at Aqueduct. Before that were a couple of Allowance Optional Claiming races at Gulfstream - 10th on February 15th and third on January 20th.

Honchis'n Ponchis - has raced in three minor stakes races in 2012, finishing second in all - the Correction Stakes, the Bold Brat Stakes and the Lynclar Stakes last time out - all at Aqueduct. Prior to that she placed in four straight Allowance Optional Claiming races with one win, two seconds and a third place finish.

Catinatree - has raced eight straight Allowance Optional Claiming races - all but the last (a win at Parx on June 3rd) at Hawthorne with mixed results - two wins among them. Catinatree is the long shot in the Bed O' Roses for sure.
