Las Vegas, NV - The 38th running of the Grade 3 Hill Prince Stakes is on tap for this Saturday, June 16th from Belmont Park. Three year olds will go one mile on Belmont's turf course in search of their share of the $150,000 purse.
11 horses will line up in race 8 on Belmont's Saturday schedule. Post time is 4:34 PM. Let's take a look at the 11 entries and the three main track only competitors entered in this Grade 3 event.
Summer Front - started with three wins and a second in his first four career starts but has cooled slightly since. Summer Front finished an impressive second in his graded stakes debut in the Grade 3 Lexington Stakes on April 21st and followed it up with a rather disappointing eighth in the Grade 2 Peter Pan Stakes most recently on May 12th. Summer Front is undefeated on grass and is definitely the favorite heading into Saturday's race.
Howe Great - had an impressive streak of four straight wins interrupted with a fifth in the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland in April and bounced back with a respectable third last time out in the American Turf Stakes in May 4th. His four career wins in seven starts include the Grade 3 Palm Beach Stakes at Gulfstream on March 11th and the Kitten Joy Stakes prior to that. Like Summer Front, Howe Great returns to turf where he is much, much more effective, going three for four on that surface.
Big Screen - most recently finished fifth in the Grade 2 Peter Pan after a decent second in the Calder Derby but he has just one win in seven career starts. In four races in 2012 Big Screen has a pair if second place finishes.
Shkspeare Shaliyah - has looked good at times in his six race career posting consecutive wins toward the end of 2011 - a Maiden Special Weight score followed by a win at the Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont in October. Since that time he has struggled to a ninth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, a seventh in the Count Fleet Stakes and a sixth last time out in the James W. Murphy Stakes at Pimlico on May 19th.
Margano - made his stakes debut in the minor Tiller Stakes last time out at Belmont where he finished a respectable second. In five career starts Margano has just one win - a Maiden Special Weight score in December, and two second place finishes.
Mr. Handsome - will be making his graded stakes debut after some decent results in minor stakes races - a third last time out in the James W. Murphy at Pimlico and a second before that at the Robert Hilton Memorial Stakes at Charles Town.
Star Channel - Todd Pletcher trained colt that won three of his first four starts before a disappointing 13th last time out in his graded stakes debut - the Grade 2 American Turf Stakes.
Film Shot - Boll Mott trained colt that has yet to see any stakes action. He does have two wins and a second place finish in five career starts - all Maiden Special Weight and Allowance races.
Spring to the Sky - will make just his fourth career start after breaking maiden in September and following it up with a fourth and a second place finish in a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming races.
Our Entourage - is the other Todd Pletcher trained colt in the race and is coming off a pair of fifth place finishes - an Allowance last time out at Belmont and at the Grade 3 Illinois Derby at Hawthorne on April 7th.
Monarchic - has yet to run in a stakes race but is coming off two straight wins - an Allowance last time out and a Maiden Special Weight at Churchill Downs on May 4th.
Swag Daddy, Le Bernardin and Easter Gift have also been entered as Main Track Only participants.
