2012 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint Race Favorites

Groupie Doll - has been one of the best female sprinters around this year placing in all seven of her starts in 2012. She enters as arguably the hottest horse in the Championship with four straight graded stakes wins - a 7 1/4 length win in the Grade 1 Humana Distaff in record time, the Grade 1 Vinery Madison Stakes at Keeneland before that. Her last two starts have been equally impressive - wins in the Grade 2 Presque Isle Downs Masters September 8 and last time out in the Grade 2 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes October 6 at Keeneland. Trainer William Bradley has his pupil in peak form. She is the overwhelming even-money morning line favorite - Groupie Doll is going to be tough to beat!

Musical Romance - Eclipse Award winner from last year and defending champion in this race won the Grade 1 Princess Rooney Handicap at Calder on July 7 after a decent second at the Grade 1 Humana Distaff Stakes at Churchill Downs in May. The last two starts produced a third two back in the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom and a win last time out in the minor Mike Sherman Memorial Stakes at Calder October 6. She has seven starts this year with three wins, a second and a third place finish - the other two results she finished just out of the money. She won the Eclipse Award for a reason and will undoubtedly be another one to watch in this most important race.

Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint 2012 | Remaining Field Entries

Dust and Diamonds - Steve Asmussen filly made her graded stakes debut with a very good win in the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom after two more wins - the minor Dashing Beauty Stakes at Delaware Park and an Allowance Optional Claiming at Oaklawn Park way back in March. She enters the Breeders' Cup having won three straight races and in the best form of her career.

Turbulent Descent - won her first two starts this year in impressive fashion - the Desert Stormer Handicap at Hollywood Park on June 17 and after a nearly seven month layoff and the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes over Musical Romance at Saratoga on August 24. Last time out was a disappointing fourth in the Gallant Bloom at Belmont Park September 22 - trainer Todd Pletcher is confident that she can return to his early 2012 form on Saturday.

Switch - Grade 1 winner that has finished second in this race two years in a row. She broke a slump with a win in the Grade 2 A Gleam July 14 - the only time that she has place in five starts this year. The John Sadler mare has been in the money 17 times in 23 starts but just once in 2012 - needless to say that she is in the weakest form of her career heading into Saturday.

Rumor - is a multiple stakes winner although still has yet to break through in a graded stakes race. Rumor has won five of 11 starts and has not finished worse than second in any race except for the Grade 1 Santa Monica Stakes on January 28 - that after two straight wins including the Kalookan Queen Handicap. She finished a decent third two back in the Grade 3 Rancho Bernardo and is coming off a win last time out in the minor L.A Woman Stakes here October 7.

Teddy's Promise - Teddy's Promise won the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes on December 31 beating such standouts as Turbulent Decent and Sugarinthemorning. 2012 has been a bit of a struggle however - a win in the minor Time To Leave Stakes in May is the only time she's finished in the money this year. Teddy's Promise had a fifth two back in the Grade 2 A Gleam and followed that with a fourth last time out in the minor John Deere California Cup Distaff.

Belle of the Hall is graded stakes placed and a multiple stakes winner that has recorded a pair of pedestrian fourths before a win last time out in the minor Valor Lady Stakes at Belmont Park October 3. She has eight starts this year with two wins and a second place finish but has failed to place in any graded stakes action.

Great Hot - Brazilian bred Great Hot has eight starts this year with three second place finishes including in her last two minor stakes races and a third place finish. She had an impressive second in the Grade 2 La Canada Stakes on January 22 and a third at the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes December 31 ahead of Sweet Home Aspen for her best results in a year.

Strike the Moon - Strike the Moon has placed in five of 10 starts this year with just one win - an Allowance Optional Claiming three back at Saratoga. Last time out was her most impressive result in some time - a good second at the Grade 2 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes at Keeneland October 6.
