Virginia Oaks at Colonial Downs

Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Virginia Oaks is on tap for this Saturday, July 21st from Colonial Downs. Three year old fillies will be featured as they go 1 1/8 miles on Colonial Downs's turf track for their share of the $150,000 purse.

The Virginia Oaks has attracted a field of seven females for race 8 on Colonial Downs's Saturday schedule - four of the seven are coming off maiden victories. Post time is 8:04 PM. Here is a glimpse into the past performances off all seven combatants and what we can expect in this Grade 2 event.

Zultanite - has placed in her last five starts - the last being an impressive second to Dancing Solo in the Grade 3 Boiling Springs Stakes at Monmouth on June 23 rd to follow a decent third as 23-1 long shot in her graded stakes debut - the Grade 3 Sands Point at Belmont Park on May 28th. She ended her 2011 campaign with a win in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Aqueduct and so far this year has two seconds and two third place finishes. She is just one of two starters in the field with a win on grass over 1 1/8 miles.

Volcat - Ken McPeek filly is the only other starter in the Virginia Oaks to score on grass over this distance and is coming off a win last time out in an Allowance at Churchill Downs on June 22nd. She has placed in six of eight career starts but was a disappointing eighth in her only career stakes start - the Grade 3 Eight Belles at Churchill Downs on May 4 th.

Filare l`Oro - will make her graded stakes debut on Saturday but she does have a trio of fourth place finished in her three minor stakes starts - the last being the Walking in Da Sun Stakes at Delaware Park on July 11th. In 11 career starts Filare l'Oro has just two wins and two second place finishes.

Julia's Star - broke maiden last time out at Churchill Downs on June 9th after a second and a third in her previous four starts. Saturday marks Julia's Star stakes debut after placing in three of five Maiden Special Weight races.

Ski Holiday - also broke maiden last time out in her second career start after a second in a Maiden Special Weight race at Presque Isle Downs back in September of last year.

Boastful Dancer - has just one career start - a maiden score here on July 13 th for trainer Bryan Baker.

My Precious Secret - It took 10 starts for My Precious Secret to win her first start but that came last time out on this track on June 26th. In 10 career start she has just that one win to go along with two third place finishes.
